As for Meyer going to OSU, the only way it happens is via NFL. I don't see any successful HFC at a major university jump to another program directly.

Tressel either just turned or will be (in a few days) 54. Don't think he'll coach another thirty, but certainly another fifteen years or so.

The man's timing is perfect for the most part, though. When he's had enough, we'll all know it. Sure hope it's not for a while.

Please fellas. We all know that the next coach at tOSU when JT retires in about 15 years (give or take) will be Troy Smith. After a very successful, MVP filled, five ring NFL career of course. Isn't it obvious? I mean, you have heard Troy speak, right? He's just a darker, slightly taller version of Jim Tressel.:biggrin:

Meyers had a "dream job" clause in his contract at Utah. If one of the schools he listed had its head coaching spot open up, he could pursue it. Florida was not on that list. The list was tOSU, UM and ND . He's a midwest guy. He'll end up somewhere around here, count on it.

Tressel is not 57, he's more like 50. And he'll coach another 10 to 12 years max. For those who don't think Meyer considers OSU his dream job, find another, not so complicated sport to follow. Because that's common knowledge to any casual college football fan. Meyer had a clause in his Utah contract that would allow him to take the OSU job. He grew up a huge OSU fan, and has a degree from OSU.

Plus, OSU is a step up in every way from FL. If Meyer had zero connection to OSU, and he were offered the OSU job, he'd take it in 3 seconds. The two schools don't even compare. OSU is the top job in America, and FL is a top 20 job. FL is the 3rd-best school in FL, for pete's sake.

I just don't see it. Very little tradition at FL, no true rival (GA's main rival is G-Tech, FSU's top rival is Miami). FSU might not seem like a good job because everyone knows following Bowden will be tough. But FSU is seen nationally as a far better football power than FL. And Miami is a job that almost guarantees its coach a national title. Miami is the easiest place to recruit to in the nation, and it's not even close.

Georgia's "main" rival is not Georgia Tech, it's Florida. Go over to their site and ask them.

I don't know what you mean about no tradition at Florida. Yeah, maybe they aren't one of the top 5 programs of all time but you'd be hard-pressed to find much more tradition within the last 15-20 years than at Florida.
