Urban Meyer Our Next Coach?

No idea. It would vary from coach to coach I guess. Look at Fitzgerald this year...he was Walker's right-hand man but quickly found out there is more to being the HC than calling plays. However, a guy like Bret Bielema has done just fine in his first year.

..but tOSU is not a Wisconsin or a Northwestern.
Both of those guys inherited the talent that underscored their seasons. Any coach at tOSU would have the same opportunity. It will takesome years to tell how good an experienced coach does.
Look at Carr. He won the NC and since then has been up and down depending upon the talent Mich can recruit on their name. Doesn't a year like he had last year (7-5) say something about his coaching abilities. It seemed like it took until the end of the year for him to decide that his coaches were screwing up.
I guess that if Luke is deemed good enough, someone will hire him soon.

How about just trusting JT to make the right call when the time comes? He's not going to ever be run out of tOSU and will have the right guy in mind as it gets to that point.
though i despise this thread, i must admit that this post holds the most merit. i'd be surprised if tressel would go outside of his immediate ohio state family, that is, his coaching staff. tressel grooms not only his players but his staff.

though i despise this thread,

I just don't understand this sentiment. Oh no, some Buckeye fans are whiling away the winter hours at work wondering who will take over for our coach 15 years from now! Clearly they either don't appreciate the present for the Buckeye golden age that it is, or they have become so arrogant that the next 15 national titles are foregone conclusions to them--and clearly they forgot to search for the previous threads on this very topic.

Good thing we have serious internet fans around to warn us against the evils of speculation...:roll2:

Who's to say that it's JT's decision. I'm sure his opinion will count in the decision, but I highly doubt he will be handpicking his successor. Unless he takes the job as AD like Alvarez did, but I just don't see something like that happening.

In keeping with the thread, I don't think Meyer will be our next coach because I look for JT to be around for the next 30 years.
I'm assuming here that tOSU isn't going to fire him anytime soon.
I also feel that JT isn't going to the pros, I think he likes it in collegiate football. I also think he wouldn't want to put up with the egos in pro ball.
Over all Tressel seems like one of the most level headed men I have ever met.
Sorry Urban.

Whenever JT should decide to retire (or move onto the Browns :paranoid: ), let's be thankful that he at least has the program in a position where other coaches will return Gene Smith's phone calls.

I'm happy to have threads debating the merits of which elite coaches we might have to choose from when deciding on a new hire. It could be worse. We could be Alabama. Or Miami.

nowhere in my posts in this thread have i warned anyone "against the evils of speculation."

That phrase was my own rhetorical flourish (I would have used those upside-down comma-thingies if I had quoted you), but you did accuse Dubs of using drugs for even starting the thread (and called this discussion "borderline sacrilege", which is really not far from "evil").
