I trust Gene. I don’t get all the hate for him. Ryan Day and Chris Holtmann may not have been household names two years ago but they are now and they are Buckeye leaders. Very happy.

Look, I don't want to turn this into a Gene Smith thread, but there's an another side to this--hiring Urban Meyer was something anyone on this planet who watches CFB would've been smart enough to do, Day was hired by Urban, Day got a chance to show what he's got in the 3-game suspension (for which Gene was also at fault and suspended), all making this hire as much of a no-brainer. Really, the only other person I would've even entertained would have been Campbell, and with his so-so year this year coupled with Day's great performance, I would've slotted them as 1. Day, 2. Campbell.

No idea. And I'm not saying he isn't the best hire they can make right now, just that the expectations, pressure, media scrutiny, etc. is massive here. Its well above anything that Lincoln Riley has had to deal with at OU. Frankly it's above what any other program in the country has to deal with. I just hope a first time HC can handle it.

Doesn't matter to Drake. The Board of Trustees already thanked him with the maximum raise and bonus allowed in his contract. They've made it clear who they believe is truly important to the future of this university.

I was just pointing out that there is definitely no love lost there. Urban thanked everyone (family, coaches, players, Gene, etc.) but not Drake.
