Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

Prior to coaching at Ohio State, Urban was the head coach at Bowling Green, Utah, and Florida. Which of those teams got better after he left?

I'm not predicting anything. But you're a blind homer if you think continued success just like under Tressel and Meyer is guaranteed.

Bowling Green struck gold with Urban, so that’s pretty irrelevant. Utah was elevated to a Power 5 team BECAUSE of Urban, and are doing pretty well on the bigger stage with Kyle Whittingham (Urban’s DC). And Florida hired Will Muschamp and Jim “Shark Fucker” McElwain after Urban. You do that, you deserve to lose for a while. Now they’ve got Dan Mullen (surprise another one of Urban’s assistants, this time UF’s OC while Urban was there) and their program is on the march back from mediocrity.

Not everything needs to be doom and gloom. And not everything becomes scorched earth when Urban leaves a program.

The absurdity of this question really just struck me.

Bowling Green: They're a MAC program, so not sure what you'd expect. However, pre-Urban, they made 4 bowl games in 29 years at the D1-level. Following Urban's two years, they went 20-6 with 2 Bowl wins and have made 8 Bowls in 16 years. So, I'd say the got "better."

Utah: Pre-Urban, the Utes were a mediocre mid-major program. In 98 years, they made 8 bowls and finished the year ranked once. Urban went 20-2 with two bowls before handing the program to Kyle Whittingham who elevated them to a consistent bowl participant (12 in 14 years with a heady 10-1 record with this year tbd), finished ranked 5 times (including #2 in 2008), and have transitioned to a Power-5 conference. They're significantly better.

Florida: We know there were issues there with him, they're well documented. But again, his record there would be nearly impossible to top and I'd argue that their choices in head coaches has played a bigger part in their struggles this decade than anything else. Muschamp and MacElwaine are both mediocre at best head coaches. It seems Mullen (a Meyer disciple) seems to finally have them on the right path.

So, in short, 2/3 were left better than when he got there and the other had as much to do with poor hiring choices as anything else, IMO.

As I stated elsewhere, I expect some slippage within the program. Not because of anything Meyer has done wrong, but because the bar he set is impossibly high.

There's some gray area between "most successful era in Ohio State history" and "this bitch can't even schedule practices."
Day is nothing but gray area. We don't know what to expect because he's never done it before.

Sure. We just lost Urban Fucking Meyer. No biggie. We should actually be excited. This guy who has never been a head coach before will almost certainly be better.

Nobody has said we should be excited about losing Urban Meyer. And god forbid some people show a little bit of optimism for the fact that Ryan Day not only kept the ship on course, but helped bond the team together during a tough time.

Yep it sure is... we will see.

I tend to think it'll workout. Ryan Day has made our offense to another level and with UFM out of the way I tend to think we will be ultra aggressive. Also having coach Wilson is huge.

Who we bring in to run the defense is key though too.
With Urban Meyer out of the way?

Holy fuck, someone just said that.

Sure, now that we got one of the all time best coaches out of the way, we'll never lose another game!
