Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

...People like me run Ohio State. We're the ones on the board of trustees. We're the ones on the Foundation board. We're the ones who donate at levels to the Presidents Club well beyond what merely constitutes the Buckeye Club minimum so one can buy some season tickets to the foosball. And most importantly, we're the ones running the show in Bricker Hall. And guess what, we're also the ones who constitute the student body...
Wait... what? I thought BKB ran Ohio State!

We might have only been 50% of the student body when I was there, but we're pretty much 99.9% of it these days...
People that are "like [you]" in what respect, are the ones who run the University and make up 99.9% of the student body?

Then, it's his choice. He can sack up like a man and do the job he's paid lavishly to do or he can choose to take his wadded up panties down the road because his bosses won't pretend that he's their boss. I'd prefer the former, but if he can't wrap his mind around his place in the pecking order, he's welcome to claim the health problem of his choosing and run back to ESPN. Either way, The Ohio State University will be just fine.

I think your position is teetering on the the side of hyperbole, again.

Some outsider perspective hopefully will cool some tempers on the boards:

Maybe, just maybe, 2018 is an anomaly and should be treated as such. For those of us on the outside looking in, Ohio State has famously quiet off seasons (exception: National Signing Day). Very little NCAA scrutiny, traditionally fun but functional spring games and not a lot else. Those of us who have experience sitting in the Top 10 of the Fulmer cup are often jealous of your peace and quiet.

IMO, Corch has earned the chance to make the necessary corrections on staff, strategy, and synergy. 13-1 is a real possibility (assuming no CFB) and that certainly strengthens his case for retention. Breathe, celebrate the seniors in their final games and support the necessary changes. Champions earn the right to correct their mistakes.

Personally, had you left out the Zach Smith bullshit... this is just 2013 again... lots of Offense, Defense is just plain scary to watch... Give up 30+ to Cal (that goes on to completely shit the bed and maybe not win a game, I don't remember but I know they sucked) and I feel like we gave up 30 to a few more teams that had no business doing that and 41 to Brady Hoke, Devin Gardner and all you have to do is cover Jeremy Gallon and it will be fine, we just managed somehow to not shit the bed till we played Sparty... and well, by the Time Clemson was over with some of the staff (Ev Withers, etc) had been encouraged to find new jobs. (and as @LordJeffBuck pointed out to us at the time, by the second game of '14 we had lost 3 of 4)

Hopefully most of Meyer's anguish is kind of realizing that all the pieces aren't working and hopefully the good off the Zach Smith thing is realizing that maybe the comfort/nepotism hires aren't serving him all that well (Bill Davis please apply for a job at Lil Sisters of the Poor).

DELETED some extraneous text.

Thanks Woof. I think that there's just a real lack of staff cohesion this year (which certainly falls a lot on Urban) and that, in combination with youth, maybe regression to the mean in recruiting (as in a lower than typical Ohio State hit rate on the "4 and 5 stars"), and today's greater volatility in game results in a more offensively aggressive era of football is a deadly combination.

I do think that it's clear that Bill Davis is simply, like Tim Beck, a bad coach, but I don't think that Schiano, Studrawa (probably average but not awful on Stud) and other coaches who've had some success in the past have suddenly become morons. One thing that OSU has done very well under Meyer is rebound strongly from adversity. I think that this bye week may be the most important week in all of Meyer's tenure at OSU: If they come back strong and finish out the season with focus and purpose, then I'll be confident going forward (assuming that Billy Davis gets tossed after the season ends). If not, then Meyer's probably lost his edge and we'll hit a few "down" (by OSU standards) years.

I like this analogy a lot. Also, we have a pretty young team and great recruiting (on paper), and, for the next two years will have a QB who has a skill set that Meyer, and even Day I think, are more comfortable building an offense around (I'd be stunned if Haskins isn't one and done). If they're also angry and hungry after what looks like it's going to be a disappointing 2018 (even if they come back with determination and focus, I don't think they can completely pull things together this year), 2019 could be special. There's just a lot of disconnectedness this year, and I think that it can be addressed if Meyer himself is physically and mentally right and still has the fire in the belly, which I hope is the case.

EDITED to remove quoting of ORD mistakenly attributed to pianobuck46. That part of the original post will be redone as a new post.

Per usual, I'm largely on board with your general take about, to use a sort of ridiculous term, the gentrification of Ohio State, and it being generally a positive thing. But besides test scores being only one measure of human ability, a 24 ACT is 74th percentile, so you're giving off a bit of a Mitt Romney 47% don't contribute vibe. Also, unless you're a lot more of a BMOC whale than your prior posting suggests, there's a whiff of small dick yellow corvette vibe too.

Uh, you're misquoting me, I never said that. That was ORD responding to what I said. Ready, fire, aim.
