Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

Anyone who thinks the next Ohio State coach will match the accomplishments of Urban Meyer sees the world very differently than me. University needs to get on top of this right now.
This all day. People who want Meyer to go are crazy. Times look bleak now but the ceiling for OSU football has been the highest since I've been alive.

if you think about it outside of 2002 and 2014 which were both done largely with the previous coach's players, tressel's and meyer's dream teams have fallen short in often mysterious ways.

Every fan base of every program in the country will lament how they've 'fallen short' that one time in the past 20 years. It is what makes what Saban/Alabama are doing so mind boggling. No program in the modern history of the sport has been so excellent for so long. If it were easy every coach would copy it.

If there is a better coach for OSU out there than Urban, I am not sure who the hell it is because Saban isn't coming. Be careful what you wish for. If anyone needs to go, it is Gene. That will fix the problem.

Gene didn't make bad coaching hire after bad coaching hire. It wasn't Gene's gameplans that have seen three embarrassing beatdowns in three years. I don't disagree with you that there isn't a better coach out there than Meyer. I do disagree that getting rid of the AD will somehow solve problems within the football program.

Ohio State's season remains to be defined. The fact that Ohio State is in the playoff picture every year tells you everything you need to know about Urban Meyer.

We’ve made the playoffs twice. Twice. One time was a total embarrassment. And we aren’t really in the conversation this year. Even if we win out, we are sitting behind every other 1-loss conference champ and Notre Dame because our one loss was THAT bad. Just like last year.

Again, I’m not saying anything like Urban should be gone. But it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he left. The cupboard isn’t bare and this Ohio State. We are bigger than one man and if his heart isn’t in it because he got roasted for keeping an idiot on staff, then we are better off without him.

I think everyone needs step back...

1) we know Urban is dealing with a brain cyst... i’ve never had anything growing in my brain that wasn’t suppose to be there... so I don’t know.. it might fuck with ones body in weird ways.

2) getting a bunch of 18-22 year old kids to perform consistently isn’t easy if it was we’d all be out of jobs

3) For those of you who want Urban gone... who’s walking through that door that makes us immediately better and better in recruiting (hint there’s only 1 guy and he ain’t leavin bama)
3a) yes Day looked awesome in the 3 games has HC but that was with Urban’s staff which includes 2 former HCs ... keep that in mind before anointing him the next coming.

4) fucking enjoy the ride folks.... we’re winning a shit ton of games. Does dropping one badly and unexpectedly suck yes... but in the end its a game. We’ll be lucky to see the run we’ve been on the last 10 to 20 years repeated in the future.. enjoy it while it last

Look, there is no one in CFB that I would take over Meyer that I can think of off the top of my head besides Nick Saban. Having said that, Urbs has some serious short comings. Namely, he sucks ass at hiring coaches. We have had some good ones, no doubt. We currently have some good ones, I believe. Neoptism nearly cost him his job, and there have been several bad hires and one glaring bad "fire" - hiring your friends and then not holding them to the same standard (or any standard, for that matter) is not fair to all the kids busting their ass in the spring and summer, all the reps, all the work and time they put in, the sacrifices to their bodies and minds - sure, they live for it - but for a coach not to give 110% back is fucking bullshit. I don't want him gone - but I would like to see him coach instead of putting his head between his knees. This guy is supposed to be a psych major? GMAFB. Put our Buckeyes in a position to be successful. He does a great job on & off the field by and large - but I don't think he's the best X's & O's coach and I'm starting to wonder if he really is the motivator/leader (above the line?) I thought he was.

For the sake of arguing just to argue:

Jim Tressel would have never had Zeke. But, we would have went from Terrelle Pryor senior year to Braxton Miller to Cardale Jones to Dwayne Haskins. Jim Tressel was built for playoffs, I always thought if some of his teams with a loss had gotten into a playoff (ND Fiesta Bowl year, Ark Fiesta Bowl year, Oregon Rose Bowl year etc.) he would have won some more hardware - basically - I felt that we were the best team in the country by the end of the year more often with Tress. Maybe its the romance and the nostalgia of that era, but adding wrinkle week after week, typically peaking in November and always saving a special something to bury the Wolverines - I think I prefer Tressel ball and the whole package over what we currently have.

I don't expect many to agree. But that's what makes the world go round. I hope Urban rights the ship, finishes this year strong and proves me wrong with a team coming together and overcoming adversity with the brotherhood as they hang a new plaque up in the north end zone this February.
