I appreciate that he came to Ohio State, won a national title, and kicked some Wolverine ass. That's what we needed him to him to do. But I never once considered him to be on par with Jim Tressel as a person and leader of men. Urban Meyer is a winner. He won. I thank him. We move on.

I tend to agree with your premise- Meyer is a ruthless winner. It’s his main focus, it’s what he’s always done and his body clearly does not respond well when he isn’t winning- on or off the field. Shelley even joked (?) that winning cures things.

However, I think it’s shortsighted not to recognize his development of men at Ohio State. Call it bias but something changed between his time leaving the SEC cesspool, his time off and his return home to Ohio. Real Life Wednesdays, academic standards, and the success of kids recruited and developed are showing their impact everywhere- Evan Spencer started a company, Joshua Perry is an analyst and outspoken leader, Stephen Collier got his masters in 4.5 years, and a quick browse through the Alumni section probably tells tons more tales of success outside of football.

The guys coming out of the Ohio State football program are easily hireable, mature, well-rounded kids. I could count the knuckheads on one hand in his 7 years leading. Meyer won, but it wasn’t just on the field this time around.

I believe Urban said he realized the importance of the life outside of and after college sports when his daughter(s) were being recruited for volleyball and he was on the opposite side of the table.

Universities are supposed to be ethical institutions, the foundation for the development of professionals who go about their daily lives in an ethical manner as the leaders of the nation. Ergo, the football programs they endorse to use their name and reputation should utilize "shut the fuck up" as a legal policy?

I expect the Yankees and Cowboys to lie and cheat. Their ethos is solely based on making money. I expect more from the teachers, doctors, lawyers, scientists, artists, and businessmen who graduate from Ohio State.

I agree with this 100% Urban's approach changed when he got up here. The Roby and Hyde situations were perfect examples He'd learned some hard lessons about managing off-firld issues after UF. Now if he'd only been so zero tolerance to his staff.

There are lies and there's repeatedly lying on a required NCAA statement and then lying to your bosses about it when called on the carpet, causing a national scandal for your employer and damaging their brand. Nothing that Woody or Urban ever did approaches that level of malfeasance. I love how people are so quick to start trashing Woody and Urban in a lame attempt to sanctify the Apossel Tressel and wash away his considerable sins.

The one good thing about Michael Drake leaving will be to watch all the Tressel disciples get their hopes up that he'll get the job when there is ZERO chance that he'd ever even be given an interview.

I like how you say “repeatedly lie” as if somehow Tress was going to decide on the 2nd or 3rd NCAA statement to rat himself out for lying on the 1st one. Dude was ready to go down with that one and he did.

The university took a hit, in large part, because many in the media couldn’t wait to take down Tress and the football program. I mean, how many coaches and programs get an SI cover entitled “How Deep It Went” about a 20-year-old raffle and some tattoos. They (and you, apparently) made it seem like freakin’ Watergate.

I’ll say it again: Spare the harsh language for the really bad shit. This ain’t it son.

Speaking of this, I sure hope Real Life Wednesdays continue. I don’t know of any reason why they wouldn’t, just saying that it obviously is a great thing and they should keep that rolling.

About student debt. A generation ago, there were almost no student loans. Some of us went without more than 2 hours sleep a day for several days in a row to wash dishes on the graveyard shift at a pancake house or clean toilets. It was common. Don't want any debt? Then go out and get a job that nobody else wants and eat crap to work your way through. I was not able to attend one Ohio State football game when I was a student because restaurants paid more on football Saturdays. Don't put your hand out, give yourself the respect you deserve and give yourself a hand up.

About majors. If you are foolish enough to commit to four years of investment and work for a major that will not result in a job, you get what you deserve.
