Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

Huge step down for fourth place. But Schmidt, Brown, Bruce, or Cooper would be the best options. We should probably ask @BB73 for first hand knowledge.

Cooper, no way in hell. Maybe tsun's Mt Rushmore.

Anyone who goes to carve Cooper's face in OSU coaching Mt Rushmore is going to have to kill me first.

100% Agree.

I hope that Day understands the important of the rivalry (and think that he does). Cooper had a stretch that rivaled Meyer and Tressel in winning percentage and talent. Despite that, these two posts sum up the fanbases thoughts about him quite well.

I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but I can't help this feeling of sadness. I'm sure Ryan is a fine coach, but Urban was elite. His ability to motivate and lead young men, to make them believe in each other and be part of something bigger than themselves was amazing to see. I can't help but feel like this is the end of the dynasty. Gene might think this is the smoothest transition because Ryan will continue the Urban philosophies. But he isn't Urban...no one is.

I'm so happy we got 7 years of truly elite football at OSU under Urban Meyer. I'm still so pissed that the university threw him under the bus with the Zach Smith crap. He deserved so much better. Enjoy retirement Urbs. You earned it. Buckeye Nation will miss you and will forever be grateful for what you did to bring the football program to a different level!

I was just thinking about something. Urban said after Maryland that there were some difficult discussions with the defensive staff. Maybe Urban had come to the same conclusion some of us did. That would be that the defensive staff needs some sort of shake up going forward. That it might have meant it would affected a good friend, Schiano and/or the best man at his wedding, Davis. Not wanting to bear this responsibility may be another part of the reason he wanted to step down.
Urban Meyer didn't walk away from Ohio State football because he didn't want to fire his buddy.

Give him a salary, make him an "analyst," let him scout talent, let him study film on opposing defenses and help with X's and O's. Let him take Earle's place and give the speech prior to Senior Tackle every year.

Rename the stretch of Olentangy River Road that passes in front of the Woody to Urban Meyer Way.

F that. Make him athletic director, send Gene packing and flip two birds at ESPN.

Doesn't matter to Drake. The Board of Trustees already thanked him with the maximum raise and bonus allowed in his contract. They've made it clear who they believe is truly important to the future of this university.

A president that's proven to be diabolically awful at crisis management several times, created two media shitstorms that have dragged the University through the mud over dubious-at-best sexual allegations, and allowed DOE and the likes of McMurphy to outmaneuver him?
Ok.
Anyone that loves the sound of their own voice can raise donations.
This guy is the George McClellan of University Presidents.

I'm trying to think of a 7 year run in OSU history on par with what we just had from Urban and I'm drawing a blank.

Maybe Woody from '68-'74.

Anyone else?
Just off the top of my head without Googling shit, Woody lost to TFUN twice and tied them once (all three at The Pig House) during that timeframe. He won a natty in '68 but lost a sure-fire one in '70 (fuck Jim Plunkett). I think Meyer's post-season record is better (Woody won '69 Rose Bowl, lost '71 Rose Bowl, lost '73 Rose Bowl, won '74 Rose Bowl, lost '75 Rose Bowl, so 2-3 during that time frame). Meyer is 4-2 in bowl games and 3-1 in B1G CCGs for a 7-3 post-season record during his seven years.
