Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

I was thinking about Earl Bruce, but you actually raise a good point... who should be the fourth? Should Paul Brown be in the conversation?

Brown won the first NC, but really wasn't here long enough. I'd go with Schmidt. It was under him that Ohio State turned the Michigan game into a true rivalry that would become the best in college sports and firmly planted itself among the elite of the sport.

Bruce, God love him, but Ol' 9-3 just doesn't cut it. Cooper, no way in hell. Maybe tsun's Mt Rushmore.

Huge step down for fourth place. But Schmidt, Brown, Bruce, or Cooper would be the best options. We should probably ask @BB73 for first hand knowledge.

Paul Brown isn't a huge step down from anyone if we are talking about coaching the game of american football.

He only coached 3 years at OSU but his overall stature in the game is beyond question. In those 3 years at OSU he delivered a NC.

I could see a debate about Schmidt if we are talking OSU career only.

Earle has the distinction of helping launch the careers of Tressel and Meyer.

Anyone who goes to carve Cooper's face in OSU coaching Mt Rushmore is going to have to kill me first.

No doubt I will miss him... damn just seems like yesterday we were pumped up he was made coach

I've been seriously flashing all day on how it felt hearing the confirmation that he was going to be here. The memory of the energy around that announcement is so strong, and the anticipation for the future, that it really makes the contrast with today that much sadder. And, yeah, seems like a minute ago.

John Wilce anyone?

First win over scUM. The Horseshoe was built during his tenure, because of a player he coached, who was also the first 3-time All-American for us.

Agree about Schmidt, but that also means Brown would only be about his OSU career as well. It was short, but extremely impactful. But Brown will best be known on how to run a program with a set of guidelines. Whether that is OSU, the Browns, or Massillon.

And I don't think Coop would be there. I was trying to think of a decent 4th option without having to delve into my Jack Park encyclopedia.

I was just thinking about something. Urban said after Maryland that there were some difficult discussions with the defensive staff. Maybe Urban had come to the same conclusion some of us did. That would be that the defensive staff needs some sort of shake up going forward. That it might have meant it would affected a good friend, Schiano and/or the best man at his wedding, Davis. Not wanting to bear this responsibility may be another part of the reason he wanted to step down.
