UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

For the Spanish sides, it's going to be interesting seeing them try to fight back (if that's even possible).

One's down 4-0 and the other 4-1.

An all-German final had high odds with the bettors.

They're both toast, especially Barcelona. Real Madrid at least has some semblance of a chance with that away goal, but still very unlikely. Borussia Dortmund has played Real Madrid well all season, so them losing 3-0 at the Bernabeu is going to be a tough task for Madrid. Barcelona on the other hand have virtually no shot down 4-0 against a much better & much hotter Bayern Munich team. I could see Real Madrid making things interesting, but no chance for Barcelona to come back from so much down against currently the best team in the world.

Watching this is getting me excited for the World Cup. I know the Club teams have players from all over, but it seems an awful lot of the German and Spanish world cup teams are on these four clubs. Couple that with the fact that no European side has won a world cup in South America and I think we'll see fireworks.

Pretty much, right now we're sitting on Germany 8, Spain 1.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if that gets worse before it gets better. Barca is shellshocked and undermanned, Bayern smells blood in the water and as odd as it sounds their best plan is to keep attacking. That first game could have actually been worse, the crying about the offsides, etc are pretty easily evened out by the fact that the ref kept his whistle in his pocket on a couple potential PK's early.

Real Madrid may be able to regroup. 1 in 10 shot for them.

On English radio last night and this morning, they were debating whether or not Dortmund was a "Feeder Club", because they keep losing their players.

They said it shouldn't happen because they draw 80,000 (or so) for each home match.

But Gotze is gone and Lewandowski is probably leaving too, so that's their point.

Borussia Dortmund are in the Final. Too little, too late from Real Madrid as two goals in the final eight minutes weren't enough to turn the tide. Probably the last we've seen of Jose Mourinho at Madrid on a big European night. Every sign points to him leaving at seasons end.

Still don't see anyway for Barcelona to advance & wouldn't be surprised to see them lose at the Camp Nou with all of the players they're missing from injuries and suspensions. 4-0 is insurmountable even for them, but they might make it interesting. Don't count on it though. All German Final at Wembley, indeed.

Of course they were. Here you have a perfect example of the insularity and self-aggrandising pomposity of the English media, bastards that they are. There are no English teams in the semis, so let's find a reason to belittle the teams that are there and somehow make out they are inferior to the bloated overblown mess that is the Premier League.

Are Manchester United a "feeder club" because they sold Ronaldo to Madrid? Are City a "feeder club" because Balotelli went to Milan? What about Arsenal? Their best player leaves every season, so where does that leave them?

I bet I know exactly which radio station it was as well. Dickheads, all of them.

I completely agree with not playing Messi Wednesday, considering the aggregate was 4-0 going in.

With the final, I hope Gus Johnson has been practicing in his downtime (I imagine he has).

100% agree..I suppose if Barca had managed to put two in the net in the first half then it would have made sense to put him on the pitch to see if they could accomplish a miracle...but I think we all knew that even with Messi out there..they were cooked and there was no reason to believe Bayern was gonig to do anything but roll them again...with or without him.

I hope Mario Gotze plays, even though he has a bit of a knock.

If he doesn't play, the conspiracy theorist will go crazy (regardless if his injury is real). But he has a window to recover, so I imagine he'll play (against his new club).

0-0 at the half. Pretty open & cagey game at the same time. End to end stuff & then some quagmire middle of the field stuff. Both teams have had some great chances, but both keepers have come up big in the pivotal moments. Anyone's game, but Borussia Dortmund showed signs of tiredness at the end of the half after a tremendous start.

Bayern Munich draw first blood. Ribery did excellently after drawing three defenders to him to get it to Robben, who made a smart run behind the D, then beat the goalie to set up Mandzukic for the easy tap-in. Great goal. Deserved lead for how well they had been playing since the start of the half.

Gundogan equalizes from the spot to tie it for Borussia Dortmund. Foolish foul by Dante in the box on Reus drew the penalty. He was already on a yellow, so I'm surprised he wasn't sent off.
