UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

Instant Karma just bit Barcelona extremely hard. Messi carted off the field with an apparent knee injury. That's the price you pay for sending on your best player in a meaningless game hunting for records. What a blow that would be if he were to miss an extended period of time, let alone one goal away from the world record.

Now that the Group Stage is over & done with, here are the Knockout round of 16 participants.

Group A - 1. PSG 2. FC Porto
Group B - 1. Schalke 2. Arsenal
Group C - 1. Malaga 2. AC Milan
Group D - 1. Borussia Dortmund 2. Real Madrid
Group E - 1. Juventus 2. Shakhtar Donestk
Group F - 1. Bayern Munich 2. Valencia
Group G - 1. Barcelona 2. Celtic
Group H - 1. Manchester United 2. Galatasaray

Keep in mind that the Round of 16 matchups cannot pair two teams from the same nation or from the same group stage group. For instance, Malaga cannot face Real Madrid, Valencia or AC Milan in the round of 16.

Interesting makeup to say the least. Who would've thought only two English clubs would make it out of the group stage ? Who would've thought all three German clubs would win there groups ? Can't wait till February & sucks for whatever group winner gets Real Madrid.

The Knockout round of 16 draw is on December 20th.

Galatasaray vs. Schalke. Nothing like some good ol' fashioned Turkish-German hatred.
Celtic vs. Juventus. One goal might win this one. More like two most likely.
Arsenal vs. Bayern Munich. Exactly what Arsenal didn't want. At least they get Bayern at home first.
Shakhtar Donestk vs. Borussia Dortmund. Interesting. I really like this matchup for some reason. Should be very entertaining.
AC Milan vs. Barcelona. A chance at revenge for Milan ? Highly unlikely given what remains of there squad after this summer.
Real Madrid vs. Manchester United. Sir Alex vs. Mourinho. Cristiano Ronaldo vs. his old club. Been waiting for this matchup for four years. Can't Wait.
Valencia vs. PSG. Another interesting matchup. PSG's first real test.
Porto vs. Malaga. Pretty even teams. Should be a good duel.

Anyone else think Gus Johnson calling Man U vs Real Madrid might not make the most sense?

I was a bit concerned at first, but I'm willing to give it a chance & we'll see how it goes tomorrow. I don't really see him as the type of announcer for this sport, but until I hear & see it first hand, I'm not really in any position to argue.

Juventus get the opener at Celtic Park within four minutes. Big away goal for The Old Lady. Matri's little tap past the goalie was in despite the clearance by a Celtic defender & the ensuing smash in by Marchisio. Not the start Celtic were looking for.
