U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

I hope Joe Gyau's injury isn't too serious.

1-1 draw. Can't really take much from that other than some players need to get their footing under them (balance) and relax (like Bobby Wood), but they're young.

I think this is probably Wondolowski's final run out to see if he can do anything. There are a lot of young strikers.

Really hope Gyau just had a knock.

 I love Klinsmann. He calls a spade a spade... and the MLS commissioner gets pissed at him for it.

Don Garber is such a jackass. Him saying Donovan should have been in Brazil is the icing on the cake. Where would he have played? Dempsey had that CF/CAM spot locked down, and as we outlined earlier in this thread, he's not pacey enough to play on the wing. I think Garber isn't very smart when it comes to tactics, and the personnel used for those tactics. He thinks players should just be there on merit alone. Which is completely fucking stupid. Earn your spot, or watch the World Cup from your couch. It clearly doesn't effect Jurgen any.

The funny thing is that Garber seems to think that the national team manager works for him and his league.

The way Garber does business - making the rules up as you go along, preferential treatment for favored markets and favored players may have worked so far to keep MLS solvent. It doesn't work for the national team.

http://www.espnfc.us/united-states/...on-zelalem-is-us-citizenwill-file-fifa-switch
The recruiting train for the U.S. men's national team shows no signs of slowing down, with Arsenal youth star Gedion Zelalem not only acquiring U.S. citizenship, but declaring his intention to suit up for the U.S. national team, according to U.S. Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati.

The Washington Post's Steven Goff first reported that the 17-year-old was joining the ranks of other dual nationals who have pledged their international soccer futures to the U.S. like Julian Green, Aron Johannsson and John Brooks, all of whom suited up for the U.S. at last summer's World Cup.

Zelalem acquired his citizenship courtesy of the Child Citizenship Act, which allows the minor children of naturalized U.S. citizens to obtain citizenship themselves. Zelalem's father, Zelalem Wolydes, recently became a U.S. citizen. Given that Zelalem represented Germany at youth level, he must file a one-time switch with FIFA in order to become eligible to play for the U.S. national team.

HUGE! That's awesome.

Zelalem (Arsenal), Emerson Hyndman (Fulham), Rubio Rubin (Utrecht, Netherlands), and Julian Green (Bayern Munich/Hamburg) are all some super talented youngsters all under the age of 20. Mix that in with guys like Yedlin (21), Joe Gyau (22), Terrence Boyd (23) and John Brooks (21)...that is more talent in the US player pool than ever and it'll continue to grow.

Remains to be seen if they can actually go out and sustain the careers of Landon, Beasley, or Dempsey, but wow. Exciting stuff.

Going to hop in and use the [/spoiler] tag on this one.

I was actually really impressed all things considered. I'm not sure the final tally (2-3) was the most deserving, as I thought the main guys had played much better than the final score (as indicated by the 2-1 lead), but still a fair result overall.

The passing, creativity, and combination play is so much better than it was years ago. It looks like there are players that actually read the game and are thinking 2-3 steps ahead. Excited for the future.

So glad to see Jozy hit the scoresheet.
