Partially true. Hoke recruiting > Jimmer. But it’s pretty clear that Rainman coaches those players up better than Fred Flintstone. Rainman is winning at a better clip than Fred-even when his own lousy recruits. But they definitely had the “best of both” shitty worlds at the beginning of Rainman’s tenure.

Hoke peaked with Rich Rod's slot dots too, taking them to the Sugar Bowl year one. And Rich Rod was at least trending in the right direction when he was canned. Is it possible Rich Rod > Hoke > Harbaugh?

Hoke got one win against us in the worst possible situation. If you give him credit for that, you are being overly generous. I simply do not see any measure by which Flintstone coaches better than that dork up there now. But it’s fine, because they both suck.

But so is Valenti... Greenberg is part of the cottage industry of hyping Harbaugh and scUM in the offseason. They do have a bigger endowment than us (though I think Valenti takes a very narrow view of "resources" when it comes to football recruiting... State of Ohio has a lot more football talent than all our neighbors. !

Pretty sure it's been posted here, but I'm certain that tsun's recruiting budget far surpasses ours. We actually spend on the low end for a premier program. Also, while their overall revenue trails us, their AD is more profitable due to funding far fewer sports. They absolutely have the resources to compete with us and are spending the money to try and do so. They're just failing. Resources and spending is not a legit excuse for not being competitive.

I think, given time, DickRod would have (potentially) got scUM to where they are right now...a team that will win 8-10 games a year, beat up the teams they should and pee into their loafers against their stronger opponents. DickRod's biggest sin was a total inability to figure out how to field a B1G-level defense. He at least fielded a fairly fun, modern offense...even if it was typically neutralized by their better opponents.

If he could have at least brought on a competent DC, I see no reason he couldn't consistently had them 8-5/9-4/10-3 which is exactly what harbrau is doing for a lot more money. He actually made Arizona competitive in the Pac-12 for a couple of seasons, though the wheels started coming off towards the end. The other issue with DickRod was some of the off-the-field gaffes...landing them on probation, the contract buyout nonsense with wvu, Josh Groban. So, in the long-term, who knows, he may have ended up embarrassing them even worse. But, as far as on-field results go, I don't see it as much of a leap that he could have been as good as harbrau.

On the surface that is true, but the line item for "bagmen" does not appear in our official budget.

Alright, people, I very clearly remember at the last meeting, we all agreed not to admit this to outsiders. Which one of you assholes let the cat out of the bag, in this conversation that definitely, really happened?

A conversation with a Buckeye fan at The Game

I put off posting this for a bit because I didn't want it to seem like an emotional reaction. There were a few Buckeye fans sitting a row in front of me. Before kickoff I was of course amped up and probably feeling the effects of a few pre-game beverages. I started making some lighthearted (obnoxious) remarks to them about bagmen, Cash Young, etc.. They sort of laughed at first but then things transitioned to a more serious conversation about the topic. I'll paraphrase but one of the guys said, "Look, I don't necessarily like it but it's how the game is played these days if you want to win". I don't live in Ohio or Michigan so I don't regularly have these conversations with people but this was the first time I heard someone simply say "yeah, we do this. The ends justify the means". While I might not respect the thinking I certainly appreciated his honesty. We were both very respectful with one another and he actually seemed like a knowledgeable person. When Dobbins scored a touchdown he looked at me and said, "cha-ching!" which I gave a wry smile to.

I apologize if the title isn't to your liking but I'm curious if others have experienced conversations like this as well? I only seem to read on various message boards the "deny, deny, deny" culture. Here was someone who openly admitted, without direct knowledge of course, that he believes the team he roots for cuts significant corners in order to lure top talent. I appreciate your responses.
