ttun Shenanigans and Arguments (2015 official thread)

What if a student was allowed into tsun because he/she was an ADA? If someone goes up to that kid and tells them they couldn't get into tsun without having autism, etc., I'd punch them right in the face. It doesn't matter if it's true, it's just plain rude.
I mean, if you're being a dick about something than yes, being a dick to someone is rude.

We don't know the context or tone that Mattison was talking about this with the family.

My preference would be that people can be adults, recognize the situation they are in, and have adult conversations about things.

In my opinion, the alternative is living in a fantasy world where uncomfortable truths are never talked about, which I don't think is ideal.

Well, this is certainly interesting...

DE Daishon Neal, the top recruit in Nebraska, will stick with the Cornhuskers.

Nick Baumgardner @nickbaumgardner · 1h1 hour ago
Daishon Neal's father: "Michigan was a powerhouse, they stormed in hard and tried to get him."

Nick Baumgardner @nickbaumgardner · 1h1 hour ago
Neal's father says Michigan's coaching staff made one mistake, said his son probably wouldn't be able to get into school w/out football

Nick Baumgardner @nickbaumgardner · 1h1 hour ago
At that point, Neal's father told U-M's coaching staff to leave the house -- he was leaning toward U-M, then threw them out of the house

Nick Baumgardner @nickbaumgardner · 1h1 hour ago
Neal: "They basically tried to call me stupid in my own house." ... Apparently Michigan offended the Neal family quite a bit there

Nick Baumgardner @nickbaumgardner · 1h1 hour ago
To be clear ... Neal's father said comment was that player wouldn't be able to get into Michigan without football, not anywhere.

Nick Baumgardner @nickbaumgardner · 1h1 hour ago
Apparently it wasn't Jim Harbaugh at Daishon Neal's house

Greg Mattison was in Daishon Neal's home last night.

No, you just shut your full mouth. The kid's a football player. Whether or not he can get into tsun, or any other school, without football is totally irrelevant. It's rude. True? Certainly. Polite to say to somebody you're trying to woo to your program in front of his family/friends? Absolutely not. Like it or not, I'm sure simple manners can play a big part in attracting kids to your program.

No no no no no... I'm all for Michigan Man thinking their in-home visits while trying to flip a recruit are the perfect time for some tough love.

Eh, much ado about nothing, imo.

I give almost as many fux about this as I do about anyone who whines about having the score run up on them (regardless of whether it's legitimate butthurt or not).

Incidentally, I find the story about the Tennessee recruit who was sent home from his Auburn visit for actively recruiting other kids to Tennessee a lot more humorous.....

This.

Mattison has probably delivered the same speech to who knows how many players over the years.

Good luck to him. On to the next guy.

You've got to admit that Mattison's move here will go down as some serious grasping defeat from the jaws of victory, though--by all accounts, Neal to UM was a done deal.
 Michigan's program is not exactly positioned to be squandering opportunities like that with 4* d-linemen.

Two things:

1. What if the parents directly asked Mattison whether or not their son would be accepted without football?

2. There could be some diabolical recruiting tactics going on if certain schools encouraged parents to ask about this. It puts the coaches of decent schools in a really awkward situation if they are directly asked about it and the parents feel the same way as this example did.
