Michigan leading over Indiana, Northwestern, Colorado State, and New Mexico.
I looked at the hudl videos for the kid - 3 star might be generous....he's big but he never seems to have to block anyone who actually moves, they all just lock up with him and he's always bigger/stronger.

A true speed rusher would eat his lunch.
Who could have predicted Warinner would be lazy/ineffective on the recruiting trail and stockpile a bunch of reaches. And on a staff with very few home run hitters on the recruiting trail, that that would become more and more of a problem.

There are a lot of projects in there that you gave the benefit of doubt to Warinner for assuming he could develop them into solid starters, but the results were more than a little underwhelming from a recruiting standpoint.

Funny, my son was going through a bunch of old papers and stuff and found some recruiting letters. Warinner recruited me when he was at Navy, I had forgotten. Wilson recruited me at Miami Ohio. I wasn't a fan of either. Warinner had the personality of a shoe.

It’s time for a game of “guess who’s being a troll and who’s being genuinely DFBIA.”

Huge get. Could be a 5 Star by the time he graduates high school. Notice the young mans footwork. Perfect. These are the type of recruits we need to get in order to close the gap with O$U.

Whatever. Not going to argue with you but when I see the recruits we get I'm excited for them. Either support the program or not.

Stop worrying about stars. This kid will be fine. He will develop into a great person whether it's through football or academics. Both should be equally important.

How does Jim's staff keep recruiting at this level. Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.

Because they get Life better than you...by a mile. Jim is a good man who is committed to doing his best to lead more good young men. He has character. He has imperfect human integrity, for which many of us strive to reach on any given day. On top of that, he has thoughtful compassion, and he perserveres to find opportunities for others to experience life-changing, poignant moments, such as The Vatican, Mandela's cell, the Louvre, or who knows what other of myriad life travels that so many douchebags on this board might take for granted that many young men and women who struggle to earn a scholarship might never experience if not for Jim's vision.

Ed Warriner has earned the right to offer guys a year away from signing that have only 3 stars. One might assume, based on past results, he can project some outcomes.

This isn't "trust the coaches" but, rather, credibility that Warriner has earned.

A few fans think they can project High School OL talent better than Ed Warinner.

Yeah, it is crazy how Warriner keeps finding these guys ranked in the 500-800 range, who end up being 4* when they sign.

I dont mind taking a lower ranked guys for the O line. You never know how they will develop. He has good measurables. Not sure on his arm length though.

Again, it doesn’t take that much work to check Warinner’s record with three stars at Ohio State, the program that has run circles around you in general but specifically in player development for two decades... it wasn’t great.

Here's a perfect example of the big difference between Ohio State recruiting and Michigan recruiting....

Ohio State gives an early offer to an in-state OT from a Buckeye-friendly program (Tegra Tshabola) who's fairly highly rated (#6 Ohio, #15 OT, #138 overall), but who's also a semi-project (a little too short, a little too heavy, a little to slow, probably a guard in college). You're willing to take a small risk on a kid like that ... and once you've got him locked up, then you go and pursue the best OT prospects in the country (Zach Rice, Gunner Givens, Addison Nichols, Kiyaunta Goodwin, Kam Dewberry) for the next year.

Michigan gives an early offer to a low 3-star prospect (#78 OT, #774 overall) who's from out-of-state, out-of-region, and has no ties to the program (Connor Jones), a kid that they should have been able to slow play at least until the summer to see how they fared with higher-ranked prospects ... a kid that they should be able to flip from Colorado State or New Mexico or wherever at any time in the process if Michigan is still the big swinging brand that DFBIA thinks it is.

Michigan's recruiting "strategy" makes no sense whatsoever.

I challenge you to identify a "strategy."
