Here's a perfect example of the big difference between Ohio State recruiting and Michigan recruiting....
Ohio State gives an early offer to an in-state OT from a Buckeye-friendly program (Tegra Tshabola) who's fairly highly rated (#6 Ohio, #15 OT, #138 overall), but who's also a semi-project (a little too short, a little too heavy, a little to slow, probably a guard in college). You're willing to take a small risk on a kid like that ... and once you've got him locked up, then you go and pursue the best OT prospects in the country (Zach Rice, Gunner Givens, Addison Nichols, Kiyaunta Goodwin, Kam Dewberry) for the next year.
Michigan gives an early offer to a low 3-star prospect (#78 OT, #774 overall) who's from out-of-state, out-of-region, and has no ties to the program (Connor Jones), a kid that they should have been able to slow play at least until the summer to see how they fared with higher-ranked prospects ... a kid that they should be able to flip from Colorado State or New Mexico or wherever at any time in the process if Michigan is still the big swinging brand that DFBIA thinks it is.
Michigan's recruiting "strategy" makes no sense whatsoever.
