MICHIGAN HAVING SUCCESS RECRUITING OHIO, BUT MOSTLY WITH PLAYERS OHIO STATE DIDN’T OFFER

There's a difference between getting beat out by Michigan for an in-state prospect and the Wolverines just getting a commitment in Ohio State's home state.

When 2024 four-star Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati) running back Jordan Marshall (No. 7 running back, No. 91 overall) committed to Michigan over Ohio State, among others, on March 21, it sent shockwaves across college football recruiting. It's not too often that a top-100 prospect that is a top target for the Buckeyes commits to their archrival. In fact, it's the first time since Dymonte Thomas in 2013 that a top-100 player from Ohio committed to the Wolverines.

Losing a talent like Marshall to any school, let alone that school, certainly hurts Ohio State, especially when it happens so rarely. It put the pressure on Tony Alford to key in on another premier running back in the 2024 class.

That's exactly what Alford and Ohio State did this past weekend. After visiting Columbus this past weekend, James Peoples committed to the Buckeyes Sunday night, giving OSU the premier running back in the class – one who is actually ranked higher (No. 5 running back, No. 69 overall) than Marshall – that it had been in search of all along.

With Marshall and three other Ohio prospects already committed to Michigan in the 2024 class, it's clear that Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff are taking advantage of the Wolverines beating the Buckeyes in each of the last two years. Other than Marshall, however, Michigan’s recent spate of commitments from the Buckeye State has come from players who Ohio State wasn’t actively recruiting.

Since Harbaugh took over as Michigan's head coach in 2015, the Wolverines have received 22 commitments from Ohio players. Of those nearly two dozen players, only two had Ohio State offers.

Great majority of guys on that list are relative no names. It's not like they've had a huge hit rate with "under the radar" guys that Ohio State passed over either. But keep letting DFBIA think they are "dominating" recruiting in Ohio.

If you told me these were former UK signees and current commits, I would’ve believed you

Kentucky actually gets players from Ohio that produce for them. scUM not so much.

The best players on that list are a punter and a guy who eventually became a 4th round pick but most of his development happened at Cincinnati after he transferred.

What Jadyn Davis' commitment means for the future of Michigan football

The recent commitment of Jadyn Davis gives us reason to believe Michigan will be a mainstay in the College Football Playoff for the foreseeable future. The five-star QB prospect out of Providence Day School in Charlotte is a tremendous player to build a team around, one that is capable of winning a national title.

.
While Davis is the 10th commitment in Michigan’s class during this cycle, he is the Wolverines’ first five-star pledge since cornerback Will Johnson in 2022. That sounds odd given Michigan’s success on the field over the past two seasons. During that span, the Wolverines beat rival Ohio State twice, won the Big Ten title twice, made the CFP twice, and have put together a 25-3 record. However, the program didn't sign a single top-100 recruit in the 2023 cycle and has signed just one five-star — Johnson — during that run.

Just sayin': They have made up the difference in lack of highly ranked Freshman recruits with the transfer portal.

Regardless, they still suck!!!

Methinks that Harbaugh's penchant for interviewing for pro positions has maybe put a little dent in Xichigan's recruiting hauls. Add to that Harbaugh's more than significant use of the portal to plug 'holes' on the team, adds a bit more dent to their roster. Why sweat and groan for three years to see someone brought in ahead of you - for not working....just being. Xichigan seems to be doing better this year, but we've all seen the decommits from GOOD teams, not just tsun. Oh, don't remember where saw it, but listed 85 or so Ohio kids that signed with D-1 teams. Not necessarily power 5 teams, but ones giving full rides. Some wise person said, you can't take them all, but Day & Co seem to be jumping on the ones they identify early. Yea, some Ohio kids are butt-hurt that they haven't gotten an offer from tOSU, but I'm glad they're getting to play somewhere else. Even tsun. As Coop used to say, 'if you miss one a good one, you face him once a year.' 'if you take one that doesn't pan out, you face him every day at practice.' Patience grasshopper. Go Bucks!

I don't remember that one but he is definitely right. With the limit of 85 scholarships coaches have to "choose wisely":

You really do have to question any highly regarded QB who would choose Michigan. Look at Patterson and McCarthy, you don't exactly get many chances to showcase your "talents" you get relegated to being a handing off check down machine.

Say what you want about how the Ohio State QB's perform in the NFL. But at least we have got them there and as early draft picks lately. Harbaugh has had 1 QB drafted and that was Jake Rudock in the 6th round. He dooms you to late late pick or UDFA with very little chance of sticking in the NFL.

Fong bomb for this guy to TTUN. I can only assume that means Tatum isn't heading north at the moment. I don't know anything about this guy, but based on the offer lists Lyle is a much better second than he is.

I think this is a commit, that they brag getting a kid from the school rather than being happy about the actual recruit

After a "stronger" than normal start.

scUM seems to have reverted back to their usual flood of generic 3*/low 4*

Their 5 most recent commits (247 composite rankings)

3* #505 Ovr #32 Edge

3* #730 Ovr #55 RB (whiff on Tatum)

3* #551 Ovr #54 LB

Low 4* #407 Ovr #42 DL

Low 4* #317 Ovr #49 WR

This along with their golden goose QB appearing to not be living up to his high ranking during camps so far.

They still have the "#2" class due to having 22 commits'. They are around 10th if you go by player quality/average player rank.

And you can pencil in Elias Rudolph as well. Yet another player who OSU has backed off on

Yea. Rudolph is a decent prospect, but he's nowhere near a "elite" prospect like DFBIA probably will make him out to be. 255th OVR and #20 EDGE in the composite. They will act like they "beat us" for a sure fire 5* recruit though. Considering we seem to lead for 3 upper level DE guys, it's safe to say the staff probably cooled on this one and Rudolph saw the writing on the wall.

I think the biggest issue with him, is still weighing around 200ishlbs going into his senior year, at 6'4'! He either hasn't been putting in work in the weight room, or he has some incredibly fast metabolism and its hard to put on weight. But he can't play DL at any G5 school, let alone a high end P5 program at that weight.
