Earle Bruce was 11-1 his first year and came within a 2 point conversion of a NC.

Were you around for the end of his tenure?
No. But he also wasn't fired for that. Just saying no coach worth anything would want a job where you can't go 11-1 and have job security.

I still say if CJ would have run some we're still undefeated and hoping for a NC run. You need a tough MOFO as your qb, it feeds the team. Not a Cali pretty boy that got his NIL money to throw only.

The semantics of what you get fired for aren't what matters. Look at the trends over the first 4 years.

Tressel comes in and takes someone else roster and the results improve.

Urban takes over a roster and the results improves.

Earle took over Woody's OSU machine and after year 1 things started to immediately slide. He went 9-3 in year two and every year after that until they fired him.

Cooper takes over a bad roster and it stays bad for 5-6 years until he starts getting more talent in.

Point being you can tell the difference between a winner and a loser coach in the first few years. Just look at the trend. Nothing right now is indicating Day has it going upward and onward from Urban. Nothing.

I'm sold...who do you bring in though really.

I'd imagine the only option would be Luke.

If it does come to a change... I really do wonder where we turn. It has got to be Luke and no one else at this point. There's no rock star Urban Meyer level coaches out there like we lucked into in 2012.

I'd say maybe look at the Tressel model.

Find a guy with extensive, winning, Head Coaching experience at a lower level. Look at his record in whatever rivalry game he has to avoid the mistakes of the Cooper hire.

You are tiring man.

What would you have done different “coach?”

What’s wrong with speculating and commenting on some of these things. That’s what this thread is for. You might notice that it’s more than just me. You don’t have to like it. But you might want to take off your scarlet glasses and realize things aren’t as rosey as you want them too be.

These coaches and now some of these players make more money than most folks. I think they can stand a little scrutiny when their performance is lacking.

You guys calling for a new hc are hopefully just prisoner's of the moment.

Day just went 11-1 and won all 11 by double digit points. That guy's not getting fired. Just not gonna happen. Now he was just embarrassed in THE GAME, and better fix it by next year.. but there is no decision for Gene to make. 11-1 is hard to do. PERIOD.

First off, I'm not calling for him to be fired today and I know he's going to be around a while. That said, let's take a closer look at that 11-1.

Five of those wins came against teams with winning records: Notre Dame, Penn State, Toledo, Iowa, and Maryland. Two of those are ranked teams, one of whom lost home games to Stanford and Marshall. The other three aren't wins any contending team would pound their chests about.

Would you say any of those teams have comparable talent on their rosters? Certainly no one who ranks recruiting would, so a lot of good head coaches could've run that gauntlet with those players. What happened when the opponent stepped up in class? He got embarrassed at home.

Day has done well with recruiting, but it takes more than just a bunch of five stars to accomplish program goals. He's shown that in consecutive years. Whether he can improve on that remains to be seen, because he's going to have some time to do it.

I am ready for the CJ train to be over. Never really felt right, and now it's a welcome move in a different direction.

My hope is that he gets sick of all the unofficial feedback he gets around town after this and just decides to go to the NFL.

It's going to have to get brutally bad before a careerist like Gene Smith will fire him. The level of bad I vividly recall in my lifetime unfortunately so hopefully people don't think 'it can't happen here".

The NFL is our best chance at a quick parting with a way for everyone to save face.

I don't think a coach at OSU can lose back to back against TTUN, and there not being the talk.

Last year the easy scapegoat was the D.

This year it was the whole package.

Knowles as well has to figure it out.

Everything needs analyzed.

The citizens of Columbus got Herbie to leave and all he did was talk on TV.

Getting your pants pulled down by Harbaugh - after the run of the last 20 years - won't go over well. Once was written off as a fluke, but twice? He'll catch some heat in town.
