Through 2 games they have 110 field goal attempts, 53 of which were 3's.

That's 48% of their offensive attempts being a shot they hit about 28% of the time as a team. This ratio will not change very much as the sample gets bigger.

So as we continue to say, unless this big guy is one hell of a 3 point shooter his presence for the next couple of years will equal just about dick.

To be fair, once he arrives, they could run the offense through him in the post.

Sure they could.

If they didn't have a scheme coach.

Beilein's scheme is to chuck up 3's and they will not deviate from that if he had Wilt, Shaq and Russel on the front line.

They could have run a different offense with Sims & Harris, too. If I didn't enjoy it so much, I would say it was criminal how poorly that team fared with those two playing.

Memphis going to smoke them.

Parity in college basketball is ridiculous compared to football. So many good players out there, anybody can run with anyone these days. Ask Pitt.

I disagree with the parity comment. Ohio State, Kentucky and North Carolina are going to run roughshod through college basketball this year. Almost everyone else is just too damn mediocre. That's why it looks like parity.

Everybody looks mediocre because there are so many good basketball players that are spread throughout over 100 colleges. But yeah, those three you mentioned are head and shoulders above the rest.

I don't know much about osu, so i'll take your word for it. Sullinger is looking like a genius with his decision to come back and not go to the NBA. Wish Darius Morris would have had that foresite.

Wow, got outrebounded and shot a lower % from the field than Western Illinois at home. Sounds like Beilein's second NIT campaign with a preseason top-25 team in 3 years.

It's all due to parity in college basketball, nothing else. Western Illinois is a good team, or has some good players on their team, because there are so many good players spread out around the country.

I mean, Western Illinois was projected to finish 8th or 9th in the Summit League (depending on what source you look at). And the Summit League was rated (preseason rating) as the 18th best conference in the country (by a site whose initials I won't mention, nor supply a link to said site).

Sounds a lot like parity to me.

No, in basketball a lot of small schools have a puncher's chance, because one shooter can catch fire and kill an inconsistent team that's sleepwalking, or that doesn't play a dominating, physical style that takes advantage of having elite athletes.

With Belien's system, Michigan could literally lose to any team in the country on an off night, as you must well be aware by now. It's not parity. If there were parity, then top teams like Ohio State, UNC, and UK wouldn't be running decent quality mid-majors right out of the gym every time out.
