Troy Smith's Greatest Performance

Troy Smith's Greatest Performance

2006

Against a much better TSUN defense than the previous years, Troy absolutely carved them up. His 70% completion pct is unbelievable....especially when considering he was under pressure a fair amount.

He did have a difficult 3rd quarter, but frankly, if you watch the 2005 game again, you'll be reminded that he had well over 2 difficult quarters in 2005 and it wasn't until there were only 9 minutes left that he came on strong and rescued us.

2004, ridiculous stats, and he DID carry the team, but I don't think the opposition was nearly as good and TGII played a big role in that one too. So my vote goes for 2006 TSUN.

Thankfully, they were all fantastic, what a big game QB he is.

I went with 2006 - Hype, overcoming a -3 turnover margin (of which only one was really his fault) against the vaunted defense, the pressure of a perfect season & NC bid on top of the normal scUM pressure, and the fact that scUM was ready for him. I though about 2004, but he kind of suprised them that year. This year, they knew what he would do, and they still couldn't stop him. I'll probably change my opinion if we end up facing scUM in the NC and we are somehow able to pull off a victory.

:oh: :io:

Went with the Texas game.

He showed the world early what he was about. Went into the defending champions house, they were ranked #2, it was at night, and Gameday was there. He avenged that loss from last year with an !!!

I love the Michigan performences, but that was expected after the last two.

Also, we all expected him to shred ND as well.

2004 is a close runner up. He took what was a disappointing year and made it alright. The comeback in 2005 is right behind that as well. So many to choose from..............

Excellent poll. That's a very impressive array of games from which to choose, and there are perfectly valid justifications for each pick.

My choice was 2005, due to the comeback, being on the road, and some spectacular highlight plays.

Here's another question: Are those five games the five best performances ever by an OSU QB?

To me, it's all about the "WOW" factor. This year and last, I admit to expecting those types of performances from Troy. But, I will never forget sitting there in south stands in 2004 watching the greatest performance in a tOSU/tsun game in the history of the series. It was magical!

All of the games listed could be voted for, no doubt.

I will be a little bit different and say that Troy's greatest performance has been the maturation on and off the field that he has undergone since 2004. His transformation at the QB position, from last year to this year not to mention from 2004 to this year, has been one that I have honestly not witnessed before. The leadership skills were present back in 2004, but his maturation seemed to take those skills to a new level this year.

Granted, Troy's growth at the QB position and his maturation are partly a result of the coaching he has received and the blessing he has had in having JT as a coach. But Troy had to be a willing "student" to allow the teachings of JT and the staff to take hold.

So I vote for other. I vote that Troy's greatest performance has been the tremendous growth he has undergone from 2004-2006, not only as a QB (which is one of the most amazing I have ever seen) but as a person.

Like Troy stated at the Skull Session
" I came as a Boy and I will leave as a Man"

I'd have to say VS tsun this year. The 04 one was close, but he didn't have near the amount of pressure then. This time around he was going against "an amazing" defense and great team in UM. A big game clinches the B10 the NC berth and another win over UM and also a place as the greatest OSU and B10 QB ever. He lived up to all the hype and performed greatly. IMO he had no turnovers, the INT was BS b/c it should of been pass interference, and the fumbles was datishes fault.
