Troy Smith Saga has begun.....

Sounds like a hungry reporter caught him at just the right time.

In that same article Smith says he would still have two years of eligibility left. I suppose he would know more about his situation than I do - but this is not what the rules say. Unless you have a medial waiver you get 5 years to play 4 and his clock started three years ago. If he stays at D1A he get a transfer year during which he can practice and learn a new offense - then one year to become a starting QB. And just what school would be anxious to tie up two years of scholarship to roll the die on one year of an unproven quarterback? I don't think he has completely thought this through just yet.

This is the sort of article that should be forgotten unless Smith brings it up again - but that wont happen in Columbus.

Win the position in practice.

You win your chance to play at practice. Who are these people who keep advocating that a player should be given an opportunity to win his position in a game...? That means we should be rotating 85 plus players into each game to see who should play. My God. Forget it.

NOT ONCE did i heard anybody say zwick looked better than smith. the whole situation smells foul.

You and I have not been listening to the same people and the little I have seen of Smith this season doesn't go far to make his case.

More importantly all anyone who has watched him in practice has seen is arm strength and accuracy. Jim Tressel wants a QB first and foremost who can make decisions and I am at a loss as to how any of us could be judging that.

And even further, I am still waiting for the first suggestion of a motive for Jim Tressel not to play Troy Smith if he were the better QB.

buckinghorse, i completely disagree. smith has nothing to lose. if he keeps his mouth shut and falls in line, he's picking splinters out of his arse the next few years. maybe the coaches take a deeper look at what they have on their hands and explore smith getting some more PT. they can either say screw smith, then he departs. or they can use his talents and keep him around for a couple years.

OH8ch, what is your response to my post of Tressel singing the praises of mistake free football from the QB position? if that is his stance, then why is zwick allowed to repeatedly make BAD DECISIONS with the football? it's double-talk, man.

The coaching staff will not give positive rewards for negative behavior.

He should make these comments behind closed doors not to the press. Making negative comments to the press will be perceived negatively and might cause negative results, as Smith noted himself.

Tressel did say all along that Zwick held a slight lead; that's the most important onlooker (and I would speculate that if you only heard "Troy is better" opinions, you might not have had a thorough sampling).

Personally, there is no question in my mind that the coach's #1 concern is to put the eleven players on the field that give him the best chance to win. Apparently, you don't agree with that. What exactly is the other concern that you think overrides the coach's desire to win? Surely not the friendship with Clarett?

Mistake free isn't just about fumbles and int's. Krenzel made his share of them and didn't lose his job. It's about understanding the offense, reading the defense and knowing which audibles to make or when to throw the ball away to avoid a sack. One thing that has always struck me about Troy when I've watched him in the spring games is how often he gets sacked.

Turning the ball over left and right? 4 Ints with 2 of those being blamed on the receivers by the head coach....yes he is horrible

Look, I really don't care who the starter is, but this horseshit of trashing the kids has to stop.
