Triple Crown (Kentucky Derby/Preakness/Belmont)

Back in the day, I used to wager a dollar or two at the track. Where I went the horses I bet on were mostly bags of dog food and bottles of glue on four legs, but I always enjoyed it. If you like to gamble, betting on horses always seemed like the way to go to me. You get 2:00 minutes of excitement before you lose your money...

The Burger King has been getting around. A month ago he was in Mayweather's corner, now he's in Baffert's entourage.

Mayweather also addressed the Burger King mascot’s appearance during his ring walk, revealing that Burger King gave him “heavy money” in excess of $1 million.

Wonder if Baffert got in excess of $1M too.

It feels pretty cool witnessing one of the rarest accomplishments in sports. We've watched horse after horse lose their Triple Crown immortality at the Belmont over the years. I started wondering if it had become impossible to win the Triple Crown...
Completely agree. As someone who watches two or three races a year (three only if the same horse wins the first two), I was surprised I got goosebumps as they made the last turn and I realized he was going to win. First time it's happened in my lifetime though...you don't get that many firsts once you reach a certain point, so I thought it was really cool.

It is a very select club, and 2014 - 1979 was the longest span with a triple crown winner):

2015— American Pharoah

1978—Affirmed

1977—Seattle Slew

1973—Secretariat

1948—Citation

1946—Assault

1943—Count Fleet

1941—Whirlaway

1937—War Admiral

1930—Gallant Fox

1919—Sir Barton

I was born in '71, so there's been a few winners in my lifetime. But I don't remember Secretariat, Seattle Slew or Affirmed. LOL. I wasn't paying attention as I played with my Legos.
But I've watched the races as an adult, and as horses kept failing and failing to close out the Triple Crown, its been one of those events I wanted to see if it ever happened again...

Mazel tov! Looks like American Pharoah's going to be a daddy

American Pharoah was a success on the track and the Louisville Courier-Journal reports he is off to a rousing start as a stallion.

It appears as though the 2015 Triple Crown winner, who has been retired to a life of breeding at Coolmore Ashford Stud in Kentucky, has scored once again.

Via the Courier-Journal:

Coolmore's Ashford Stud reported Friday Untouched Talent, dam of Bodemeister, is in foal to the Triple Crown and Breeders' Cup Classic winner.

Untouched Talent is a 12-year-old Storm Cat mare who herself won at the graded stakes level. Bodemeister, the speedy 2012 Arkansas Derby winner that finished second in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, is the best of her offspring -- so far.

The gestation period for Thoroughbreds is typically 11 months, or about 340 days. So by this time next year, we should see the first of American Pharoah's progeny.

Tapwrit won the 149th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, defeating favorite Irish War Cry in the race's final stretch in Belmont Park, New York.

"It's a feeling I can't explain, I'm very happy right now," jockey Jose Ortiz said after winning the race, adding that the horse's owners "always had a lot of faith in him."

The victory gave trainer Todd Pletcher his third Belmont Stakes win. Tapwrit also became the first horse to win the race from the second post since 1994, according to ESPN.

Two undercard races, two winners, meaning I'm fucked if I don't quit now (I'm not quitting). It's raining like hell at Churchill Downs but bone dry an hour north of there. Looking like we're gonna have a muddy track for the big one.
