Since his other horse drew the 1 (which I can't see as a coincidence), it looks like he's probably an also-ran this year. As of Friday morning at 11:50 a.m. EDT with $1,914,218 in the pool, Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Journalism was 3-1 on the tote. Off of his 3-1 morning-line odds, he has been vacillating between 3-1 and 7-2 Friday.
Sandman lengthened slightly to 5-1 leading into midday Friday, still shorter than his 6-1 morning line. Sovereignty, 9-1 off of his 5-1 morning line as of Friday morning, was the only other horse in single-digit odds.
The longest shot in the field as of Friday morning was Florida Derby (G1) third-place finisher Neoequos at 48-1.
Rodríguez was scratched Thursday, while Grande was also taken out Friday morning. Baeza, originally on the also-eligible list, is expected to run.
