Trev Alberts - AD at Univ. of Omaha

Well, Omaha better put aside a bunch of money. Trev will add floor length mirrors to all four sides of his office, so he can look at himself all the time. He can practice his grimaces (when he talks to the one newspaper person that covers that college), and practice his boyish smile when he finally wins a game (in any sport). Probably had regular teeth brightenings put into his contract as well. Heck, maybe he will show up for work, unless he stays at home pouting that the President of the college gets more air time than he does.........

I hate Trev Alberts more every day.

University of Omaha wins the NCAA Div 2 team title for the third year in a row & the very night that they won the NCAA tournament, he announced to drop the program. The program is fully capable of funding themselves on top of it all. Makes me wish he was just a puppet for ESPN again instead of in a position to screw kids over. Classless.

Trev changed the locks to the athletic facilities so the wrestling team could not get in when they returned with their National Championship trophy.

And they're adding soccer and golf?

According to Trev, he had to break the news to the Wrestling team the same night as the championship because he didn't want them to learn about it through the news papers the next day. He was worried it would leak out and that it wouldn't be right by the team. He was actually sitting on the news before their big match because he didn't want it to distract them during competition. The timing really, really sucked to say the least.

At the same time, he could have made his announcement in person instead of over the phone. He botched that one up. Either way I feel terrible for those kids.

While the UNO wrestling team does a lot of their own fund raising, it is incorrect to say they support themselves financially. They are on the higher end of the Div. II budget with a yearly allocation of over $400,000 according to Trev. They fund raise about $80,000 a year, so in the end, the program run in the red by about $320,000/yr.

UNO athletics will be broke in 5 years if something wasn't done. Trev is the first guy in two decades that has at least come up with a plan. He has the support of many of UNO's biggest donors to do this. While some are understandably unhappy, dropping FB and Wrestling along with jumping to D-1 is the right move financially.

Dog bites man. The sun rose today in the east. Trev Alberts is a not too bright, smugly arrogant, self-satisfied douchebag.

These are NOT news. Wake me when Trev acts with a bit of introspection, reflection and thought. That's news.

This is not true. It was a rumor that was squashed when one of the player's father's came on local radio to say that the players and team have full access to all the buildings and locker rooms.

And like the salmon returning to San Capistrano, here come the corntards all buttsore because someone on distant message board dares to not think that they and all associated with the program are not just the gosh darned swellest, classiest folks out there.

I feel like Winston fucking Churchill in the thirties warning of the approaching storm, but mark my words; after a full season or two of dealing with the children of the corn, I have little doubt that the dominant opinion will hold them with the same scorn and contempt that they've repeatedly earned on shaggy bevo.

As a person who lives in Omaha, knows people who work and teach at the University, and also know students that attend there, I have to say this post was classless, IMHO.

The reason why the wrestling and football programs were dropped were because of the move to the Summit League - which does not include wrestling or football.

The school has fought with funding numerous times over the last decade. Alberts stated that they would have to double the budget for wrestling to even support wrestling if they attempted to move the wrestling team to the Western Wrestling Conference. The other thing he stated this would create would be a gender-equity imbalance (Title IX).

There are a bunch of people who are taking cheap shots at Trev just because he happened to go to school in Lincoln instead of Omaha. They're also taking shots at Tom Osborne, saying that Trev and Doc Tom conspired to 'ruin' UNO Athletics.

The facts speak for themselves, however. UNO has had problems paying the bills when it comes to athletics.

If people want to support the athletic programs of the school, and want them to advance ahead, they have to realise some tough choices need to be made.

As far as the locks being changed on the doors? I agree that it's unfortunate, but given the reaction of other people prior to the decision, I can't blame the guy.

I would think people would be taking cheap shots at Trev because he's an idiot.....but maybe there is a tension between Lincoln and Omaha that I'm not aware of.

Tension? LOL - that's putting it lightly.

Folks in Omaha and Kearney tend to think that Lincoln looks down on them because they have the #1 draw in the state. Creighton fans hate UNL fans, UNO fans hate UNL fans.

Think the 'little brother' syndrome. UNL makes all the moolah, so they call a lot of the shots. People tend to think that's with EVERYTHING.

They root for UNL until their Creighton/UNO/UNK cheese gets moved.

1) I could give two shits about Trev Alberts. Not the reason I'm posting here.
2) Lincoln DOES look down on Kearney and it has every right to do so. Kearney's got the arch and a five mile loop to get to it. Whoop-de-fucking-do. Place is a hole.
