Trev Alberts - AD at Univ. of Omaha

Okay, lol

I watched this.

I'm here to say that UNL isn't very concerned with UNO's Division 1 'team', and anybody in Omaha that states that fact is very, very mistaken, trust me.

UNO and Creighton would blame UNL for everything if they could.

Now wait a second - you're saying that ESPN ran a story that was unflattering to a guy who told them their dog-and-pony college football show was a piece of crap and slammed the door on his way out?

Knock me over with a feather!

Have you read Shatel's article in the OWH? LOL

I try not to read much from the Weird Harold. They tend to make me want to gouge my eyes out. Especially that potzer Shatel.

I have to say, though, that the Sam McKewon hire was a brilliant move. He was languishing out there in Grand Island. They got themselves a great writer, and I'll continue to follow him at the OWH.

EDIT - holy crap, I just read the article. That's a brutal bunch of errors and omissions by ESPN.

Hatchet job, indeed.

This is the most ridiculous statement I hear all the time about this situation:

Bober, Deeb and other supporters also believe a reason behind dropping the football program comes from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, home to the Cornhuskers, who might see a Division I football team in Omaha as a threat to its successful walk-on program. Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne said that isn't true, and chancellor Harvey Perlman said he heard of UNO's Division I plans only about a week before they were finalized.

Hmm...I can go possibly play for a school that is going to be on national television next year.....or I can play for a school that is on public access TV sometimes.

Rough decision :slappy:

Yes, the deleted emails were probably a very bad idea.

I have deep misgivings about this move to D1A by UNO. It doesn't make much sense to me. They had two very successful programs with two beloved coaches who were axed without much grace. Trev could have done a far better job of that, IMO.

I think it's pretty safe to say UNO was/is in some dire financial straits, but this move doesn't seem like the solution. Not sure what the motives were behind it, but I'm not yet willing to believe they were entirely nefarious. Misguided, maybe, but not intentionally damaging to the school.

Agreed - that is a ridiculous and stupid allegation. That cropped up the day they announced the move to D1A. I see it hasn't lost legs yet. Dumb.

Yeah, ESPN decided to omit the fact that the football team was on the chopping block a couple of years ago. And that's only one of the recent issues with finances UNO has had.

No shock here. He's also a liar.

Wrestling with the truth in Nebraska

I wonder if the IRS will let me file in a lower bracket next year if I just don't count part of my income. Hmm...

This is what is often called "left pocket/right pocket" accounting. It's not really income for the athletic department if it's merely funds transfered from the university. Eliminate the transfer and the university saves that amount, right? Similarly, the student fees used for football will now be available for another use. You don't think they're going to refund/reduce the student fees, do you?

The thing about numbers is you can make them look exactly how you want them to.

You know, some folks in Omaha are such hyprcrites. They cheer for UNL and say they're "our team" but when some adversity comes up here in Omaha, we point the finger.

I'll bet you nobody was thinking at 9:00 on this video, "There's that bastard Alberts."
