Well, this is going to be interesting. In the upcoming days a million people are expected to visit Oregon for the eclipse on Monday. Our population is 4 million. I'm still trying to get my head around the hit on our infrastructure and services. And that at least half those people are expected to head out into the high desert--in the middle of a nasty wildfire season--via mostly 2 lane highways. I may need to fill an extra cooler with beer this weekend.

Actually it sounds awesome... this is one of those things where my wife is wondering why I'm loading my ice chest, LP tanks and 5 gallon gas cans in my truck and running errands. And then I say, you know, I don't really like camping, so if I'm doing it, I'm gonna have steak/beer, grill and generator while I have to endure it. Then nothing will happen, but, I'll play with all that stuff anyway. I mean, the solar power is gonna get interrupted... that coffee maker ain't gonna turn on itself. that plus the alien spaceship that's going to attack while obscured in the shadow.

I live in Charlotte (where we will have a 98% eclipse) and my wife told me that it has been reported that all the hotels from Columbia east to Charleston are totally booked. Great boon to the the region's economy. Not sure I will drive the 50-70 miles to see a 2 degree difference and endure all the traffic for a couple of minutes of total darkness. I remember an eclipse (i think it was total) when I was a kid...pretty cool.....

Yeah, I was shocked last month when I went to book a room -- Charlotte was as close as I could find with availability both Sunday & Monday. I didn't think anyone actually cared that much.

Nah, I'll be too busy tearing down Confederate statues. Or goosestepping around town in my replica SS uniform. Haven't decided yet, but I'm open to input.
Why not both?
