According to the weather last night--along the path of totality--OR, ID and WY have the best chance of clear skies.

So far, Ohio is showing up clear--subject to last minute change, being Ohio.

What I don't understand is why you guys are obsessing over zombies. It's a total black-out eclipse, for cryin' out loud. It's VAMPIRES you should worry about.

PS One really cool effect that I just remembered from the eclipse in the '90's--I was in my daughter's school yard, that had a number of trees around it. At the height of the eclipse, the shadows of the leaves on the ground were sickle-shaped...all these shimmering little crescent moon shaped shadows. That kind of fascinated me, it was so unexpected.

Actually it sounds awesome... this is one of those things where my wife is wondering why I'm loading my ice chest, LP tanks and 5 gallon gas cans in my truck and running errands. And then I say, you know, I don't really like camping, so if I'm doing it, I'm gonna have steak/beer, grill and generator while I have to endure it. Then nothing will happen, but, I'll play with all that stuff anyway. I mean, the solar power is gonna get interrupted... that coffee maker ain't gonna turn on itself. that plus the alien spaceship that's going to attack while obscured in the shadow.
Portland is on the edge () of totality at 99%. I'm fine with that. My in-laws however are eclipse chasers and have had this marked on their calendar for years. So, most of the extended family will be heading out to a spot they secured in the high desert for almost a week (a 2-3 day traffic jam is expected along the path of totality).

Watching just the logistical plan unfold has been fascinating (it cuts almost a 500 mile path across Oregon--much of which is fairly remote): mobile cell phone towers, pre-positioning emergency and wildland fire crews, mobilizing the National Guard, importing every available porta-potty in the west...The circus of a million tourists pouring in may damn well be more entertaing than the eclipse itself!

And one of the original maps has it skipping Idaho  I will be watching it here in Boise most likely, it will not be totality but it is going to be over 90% supposedly. Every area with totality in my part of Idaho is going to be absolutely jammed with people and I don't feel like dealing with the crowds.

What did they jack up the price of a condo in Sun Valley to? It has been ridiculous here.

This is nothing but winning. Now I wish I was there.

I feel like this is gonna be the Yukon Gold Rush of unprepared morons in miniature.
