tOSU's BCS Bowl possibilities

I bet if you were to ask the Fiesta Bowl committee, they'd say they don't feel they were "stuck with" Boise St. in that game. IIRC, that game turned out to be a pretty damn good one...
It's not about how good the game is. It's about the possible viewers. Do you think the sugar bowl was still happy with Hawaii last year? Fact is that games with Ohio State and Oklahoma will be more highly rate than with Boise or Hawaii meaning more money from advertisers. Its really simple. Any non-BCS this side of Notre Dame will be picked last.

The Orange Bowl has the ACC champ and the last pick for an at-large this year. In 2006 the Fiesta had the last pick and was stuck with Boise St.. In 2007 the Sugar had the second pick (Georgia) and the last pick and was stuck with Hawai'i.

My prediction is that the Orange will have the ACC Champ and the non-BCS qualifier. Everything else is pretty much a crapshoot, IMO.
Look at BB73's 1st post in this thread. It's not really a crap shoot at all after you figure out who's in the National Championship game.

And since the post that you quoted was in response to a prediction made today. 5 weeks from the end of the season and the selection of the top two teams. How exactly is it not a crap shoot, "at this point", without the knowledge of who's in the NCG?

ESPN - Maisel: I-Formation - College Football

2. When the Rose Bowl reached down to No. 15 to select Big Ten runner-up Illinois to play No. 8 USC last season, only two members of the selection committee voted against the Illini. The Trojans won 49-17, and that lesson isn't lost. If Penn State plays in the BCS National Championship Game, the Rose Bowl is wary of Ohio State, even though the Buckeyes haven't played there in 11 years. USC's 35-3 victory over Ohio State in September would provide the cover not to take the Buckeyes.

do they really care how good the game is though? isn't it more important that the hotel rooms are full and the restaurant/bars/golf courses are packed?
The Oklahoma/Boise St Fiesta Bowl packed hotels. etc., pretty damn well.

Yep. Hawaii had a large amount of people travel...and many stayed well past the game as part of week-long travel packages, whereas many "mainlander" fans would've not stayed as long.

Now, are there any non-BCS programs that travel, or have the viewership, like Ohio State's? No. But, it's not as bad you as you make it sound for BCS bowls when non-BCS schools are participating.

I don't really care if I'm accused of that, because I've watched Florida and Penn State both quite a bit this year. I've seen Florida dominate much better competition and lose a close one against a competitive team, and I saw Penn State dominate bad competition and struggle against our under-achieving Buckeyes this year. Dominating good/very good competition and getting upset by a solid team > dominating bad teams and struggling against the Buckeyes, but not losing. IMO.

Ok, I hereby accuse you of buying into media hype :). Ask yourself honestly, do you thing there's a chance that you feel that the Buckeyes are struggling is because you've watched so much of them that you've seen all the lumps, not just the highlight reels? I would agree that the Buckeyes are struggling on offense, but the offense was held to 6 points so PSU did what they needed to do there. The defense has been as good as any in the country since USC.

Florida is the only team with a winning record Ole Miss has beaten. If Ohio State or PSU had gone down to a 5-4 league bottom dweller, would you give them the same benefit of the doubt?

I'm sorry, but there's no way PSU gets jumped by a one loss Florida unless they loose.

I'll worry about this crap come November 23. The Big Ten in November is tough. I think we will win all of our next three games, but in no way to I see any of these games as automatic.

Yeah, and the damn season is flying by. We wait months for it and it's 3/4 over already. :(

All that matters right now is beating Northwestern tomorrow.
