Game Thread tOSU vs. Virginia Tech, Sept 6th @ 8pm ET, ESPN & ESPN3 Skycam

Didn't realize there were any hokies here. Hell of a game. D is legit, and it makes me sad because we used to have that. Go make some noise and good luck!
I'm sure Bud Foster and co will bring it all year long.

I've read multiple Hokeis compliment the OSU fans that they tail gated with. I look forward to the Blacksburg hospitably next year. Go OSU and go VT!

Personally I do not think screens would have worked well vs the man to man they were running most of the night unless we could have gotten a couple of linemen out, would have been tough the way they were pressing the coverage, but I think some rubs and picks would have worked for sure.

Screens are exactly what you run against man-blitz. Not a WR bubble screen, but a standard screen to a TE or RB. The corners have their backs turned to the play, the LB's are either blitzing or coming up in run support leaving a TE or RB open in the screen. You don't even need the line to go out and block. If you catch the LB in a blitz on the screen side, it's a 10+ yard gain before the safety can make a play.

It's a great play against an aggressive defense, textbook play call, I'm not sure why it wasn't called today. :)

Funny thing is, all we really wanted was Bollman gone. Hell, you get warriner 6-8 years sooner and you might have another trophy or two on display.
Ya know.. I don't wanna play the "if's, but's, candy nuts" game in this thread, but, for real?

You are a $500 Troy Smith handshake away from a trophy.

You are a discounted tattoo (or six) away from a trophy.

You are a happy Maurice Clarett away from a repeat title.

It's been, and with a little patience it will again be (hopefully), a fantastic time to be a Buckeye.

O-line & Mensa Herman exposed a bit tonight and last week. D is a work in progress but much better than last year in my IMO.

Be a year where I need some beers.. For sure. But Bollman bashing? Christ.

I'm no longer giving Herman my benefit of the doubt, and I've got to imagine Urban is thinking about it, though his post-game remarks were noticeably focused on players and not coaching, which I guess is expected, but maybe interesting. The WRs certainly didn't help, to be sure, which is where his ire seemed to be directed.

Definitely feel bad for JT, as he was hung out to dry not only by Herman and the coaching, but also by his WRs and backs. The D seems to be improving a bit, and when a few of our new playmakers got in, they made the plays, which bodes well for the future. Unfortunately they inexplicably dropped into that shitty soft coverage at the worst possible moments. The offensive line is a weak point, but I'm not worried about their development, even though I am worried about their present skill and how it will affect this immediate season.

Pretty much, I think we ran one on our second to last drive (?), and had it been completed it probably would have been a touchdown for Dontre.

Exactly. Why did we wait until that drive to make the call?

Probably for the same reason the play itself didn't work. JT couldn't complete it with no time.

Not a slight to him, but to the O-Line. When your front 5 might as well be saloon doors, the play calling becomes limited.

Certainly not limited to the two REALLY awful plays they continued to run, but certain options just don't work in that circumstance.
