Game Thread tOSU vs. Virginia Tech, Sept 6th @ 8pm ET, ESPN & ESPN3 Skycam

That 'D' only works against a rookie QB, a weak Oline and an offensive coordinator picking his nose.

I'd love to see the numbers, but I can't remember seeing a defense send 5 + more in any game. I'd wager it was 75% of the downs. And only 2-3 3rd downs did foster not blitz. Although god only knows why not?!? I assume his headset must have malfunctioned.

They sent 3 pressures from the boundary in a row on that last drive because... Why not? Go figure when we get to the other hash, another blitz from the boundary. I know I wasn't the only one screaming it.

It wasn't even good heads up blitzing. Those DB's screamed off the edge with no regard for anything behind them or in front of them other than the QB.

It's mind blowing that Herman can't see that from the box.

I think you underestimate a coach who realizes what is going on and capitalizes on those mismatches - we have a few that could probably learn from him....

Ahh. Perhaps I read too far into that. Mea Cupla.

Not at all. I wasn't just super clear with all the rambling.

The tragedy, I suppose, in my perspective is that I've lowered my expectations for the Buckeyes. In many ways this is what it must feel like to be a fan of any other team in the conference, where you simply accept that certain things are out of reach and for other teams -- at least for a single season.

Still, lots of football to be played. At the end of the day, we're all just trying to wrap our heads around the fact that after going undefeated for 24 games, we just lost 3 of our last 4. That's a problem, and it's going to take some adjustment.

5 years ago, we had crazy's calling for JT's head because he was too focused on defense, and didn't take any offensive chances. People wanted Pryor to be moved to wide receiver, for crying out loud. It's a different system now, and the pendulum has gone in the other direction.

Funny thing is, all we really wanted was Bollman gone. Hell, you get warriner 6-8 years sooner and you might have another trophy or two on display.

If you're not seeing deep respect for their D and the play of their QB, then you're not looking very hard. Good win by VT, no question about that.
Again, as a Cleveland guy, a very sincere good luck. You guys looked really solid. The problem is with preseason rankings. You guys are a mid teens team (no offense meant), as is VT. It was an amazing game to watch. I have family from Canada down who just turned into college football fans from this one.

You have a really good team who squared off a hell of a defense (either in line with MSU or better) and with an offense who decided to show up. VT looked great, and I was stoked. The play by the OSU d-line was fantastic (I think the best in the country). You shut down the run and forced us to win through the air. The only question I have is, with the recruits you have, I'm surprised you played so much zone. VTs DBs locked down the air game, with except to Chuck Clark (#19) in the beginning of the game. Why OSU doesn't have the faith to put their top talent on an island, and why you didn't pressure Clark more is my question.

Either way, great game. It could have gone either way in the 4th.

This is one year where I wish we'd scheduled 4 patsies to start. Instead, we got an anomaly in Navy and a tough out in VT to start. But, who knows when you schedule these things 8 years in advance.
Felt weird with Meyer saying in interviews he was wishing their first test wasn't against VT, or some such phrase (@MD Buckeye may have to fact check me).

It's like he knew they weren't ready yet, especially after dealing with a tough Navy team/system. Just odd and disappointing to think about looking back.
