Game Thread tOSU vs. Virginia Tech, Sept 6th @ 8pm ET, ESPN & ESPN3 Skycam

My thing is why continue to stock pile all these fast guys when we don't even fucking use them? Tom Herman has no idea what to do when he has a defense that is successful in making it difficult. Oh he can house the crap teams (you watch against Kent, we are gonna do it skrong) but when we run into a defense that can ball he has no clue how to find a way. Carlos Hyde running wild? Sweet let's run a Qb draw! Can't stop the blitz? YeSsSs 7 step drop here we come! Haven't ran the ball all night? Looks like a great time for a play action on 3rd and Bauserman.

On defense we adjusted at halftime. On offense I truly think Herman watched the batman show from tbdbitl

Just a major disappointment. It is what it is but at least we get to kick the [Mark May] out of Kent State and feel like world beaters again next week. (by that I mean 31-17)
Yeah but I worry about the game with UC. Losing two ncaa titles to those Oedipus complexers in the 60s was bad enough. To have them be the first Ohio team since Oberlin to beat us in football would end life as I know it.

Well get ready because after tonight ever team is practicing a double eagle front with 0 behind it. Better learn how to beat it.... can we just hire ted tedford as OC already?

Reminds me of MR. BASEBALL... better adjust fast because after tonight ever team is practicing schuto

I've been a big fan of the style of offense Urban runs, but I'm starting to wonder about Herman. I'm starting to notice a trend in big games offensively and they are not good ones. We have been out coached in 3 of the past 4 games. ...arguably 4 of 5. Too much reliance on Braxtons athleticism and not developing other players Tonight it was evident.
We are so predictable. Teams should be so over whelmed with all the speed out wide that we have and yet they aren't. I would KILL for a OC like the one Texas A&M has or FSU.

Coach Herman:
Had to adjust to 'Double eagle' 'cover zero'.. Sounds like he is asked if it was hard to run: "It was damn near impossible"

Mentioned when they finally had guys open, protection broke down.

Sounds kinda jacked, on my iPad.. Drunk & going to bed. Sorry for not giving he full highlights of Herman's video above. I've had enough for the evening.

Something we haven't prepared for, something we didn't expect. I would be happy to not hear those things in post game pressers moving forward. Urban may not want to assign blame here but I have no problem doing it.

I blame Will. As in we cannot seem to impose our will on anyone. We cannot score at will. We cannot stop teams at will. Will we be able to do these things one day? I sure hope we will.

Is it just me or did all of the offensive empty backfield sets just seem to take on the persona of last years 3 man pass rush in terms of expectations for success? I just didn't feel like we were a serious threat when we lined up in it.

I'm with you.

Of course hindsight is 20/20 but how can an offense that knows its weakness is the O-Line, has playmaking talent at WR and is easing in a green QB NOT have prepared for what we saw tonight.

As an armchair DC, I would have prepared the same D to force the Buckeyes' hand.

I also don't necessarily believe that having 7 in the box means you can't hand the ball off for positive yardage. Sweeps and counters with Smith or EzE could've proven effective at getting us manageable 3rd downs. I dunno. I think even though the D had problems, the offense really didn't carry their weight. Our D-Line played about as well as you could ever ask and almost did enough alone to win a game where literally every other unit struggled.

Also, in an effort to ease my privileged mind I've come up with the perfect tin-foil conspiracy explaining the B1G's struggles as of late.

In an effort to extend their grimy reach FURTHER than the subliminal (and not so much) degradation of the B1G brand, ESPN and its affiliates have enlisted broadcast personal to place Belechickian level taps/spies/probes on all B1G sidelines streamed directly into the booths of their opponents.

Surely that's the only way the conference can be so goddamn sad right now.

Not gonna name any names, but there's a certain play-calling coach who needs to go.

I don't care if you're in Mensa, if you can't see wtf is in front of your face and respond accordingly, you aren't a genius, you're a savant.

It's borderline criminal that JT4 had to try to stand back there against that rush and blitz package and deliver the ball that far down the field.

I wasn't pissed earlier. I am now.

Mensa is vastly overrated.
