Game Thread tOSU vs. Sparty, Sat 11/21, 3:30pm ET, ABC

And if it does, it does. Everybody thought the sky was falling after narrowly beating a BAD scUM team, then losing to sparty and clemson. Well, they turned around and won the whole goddamned thing the next year. As long as we have Urban Meyer, I'm pretty sure we'll be okay. He's still the best coach in the game, imo. Is this year a gold star coaching job? Fuck no. But every coach, from Lombardi, to Woody, to Wilkinson, to Saban, to Urban has hiccups.

He's gotten out coached by Dantonio twice in three years. Just saying.

Well, enough of this. I'm rewatching "Breaking Bad" on netflix and I'm about to start season 4, where it took the leap to BEST TELEVISION SHOW EVER. Gus motherfucking Fring.

Fuck m*ch*g*n.

Funny. Season four is when I quit watching. The Fly episode was the final nail for me. He was pissing and moaning about when would have been a perfect time to die, and I suddenly realized that I wished he was dead already, so I could quit watching his dumb ass. Once I came to that realization, I just couldn't push through.

hmm, even back in '69 when I was a rabid diehard fan I never prayed re: a sporting event. Now ***if*** the Buckeyes had been ***lucky enough*** to make the playoffs, playing either 'Bama or Clemson may not have been a pretty sight.

Again, that's why last year was so great ie low expectations. Mentioned in the Oregon NC thread a word of caution: The Buckeyes were gonna be favored in every game this year. Never a good prospect when talking Buckeye football. This is usually the time of year they lay their annual egg! Except '68/'02/'14.

btw, '68 Ohio State had an AP preseason rank of 11
'02 Ohio State had an AP preseason rank of 13
'14 Ohio State had an AP preseason rank of 05, IIRC just before Braxton got hurt and after the VT loss dropped to 22.

Always better to be the hunter than the hunted, except Oklahoma in '74/'75/'85 ~ Alabama '78 ~ Florida State '93/'99 and Southern Cal '04 when they all started out No. 1 and ended No. 1.

>

And the Buckeyes were a unamimous No. 1 this year. The Kiss of Death !!!
Are you sure? Every year we hear thst no AP pre-season #1 has won the NC.

I will go through everything in detail tomorrow. I really never wish injury upon anyone. But I really, really hope Elliott was hurt tonight. Not banged up, but hurt beyond repair. If he was even 20-30%, our entire staff should be fired for not getting him the ball. If we can put him out on the field, he can play. I am not disappointed in our players. I am disappointed in our staff letting our players down. I knew we would lose a game but this was disappointing.

Game results aren't always about head coaching. Today was more on Beck than anyone...
That's a load of b.s. Urban Meyer sits at the top of the offensive brain trust at Ohio State. It's on him.

If you want to lay it all on Beck then you're going to need to tell me exactly how and why. How are the responsibilities for game planning and play calling divided among the offensive staff? Is Urban's headset connected to anything? Why does he carry a play chart? Did he tell Beck to run Zeke more and not to run Barrett four straight times into the teeth of the D but was powerless to stop him? Actually, it would still be on Meyer if that was the case.

Look, nothing about how this offense has performed this season makes me think Beck was a good hire. But Beck wasn't on the staff in 2013 and I'm seeing repeats of some of the same headscratching decisions we saw back then. At the time we questioned Herman. This is Urban Meyer's offense. Just because he's a rock star and won us a championship shouldn't exempt him from criticism. I realize it's tempting to look for a scapegoat. Beck deserves whatever criticism he deserves but Urban deserves the lion's share.

Everything matters in a close game like this. Or it doesn't.
Zeke was in the hospital according to reports Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Were the coaches concerned about his health?
Dantonio understood that it would be a close, hard fought game. He planned for it. He gambled and could have just as easily lost it.
Dantonio won this one, this time. He had his team mentally ready for a hard fought, close game.
The weather was a factor. How much? I don't know but it looked horrible for much of the game. But the weather was the same for both teams.
Clearly, all the injuries at the WR position hurt us all season. Hurt the play of the QBs all season.
Sparty got healthy at the right time. They played with an "edge".
They out played us on both sides of the ball. But not by a wide margin.

On to The Game. Maybe we get an "edge" back. Maybe we're a little embarrassed and angry. It would help.
