Game Thread tOSU vs. Sparty, Sat 11/21, 3:30pm ET, ABC

Tim Tebow after losing to Ole Miss:

"I promise you one thing. A lot of good will come out of this. You will never see any player in the entire country play as hard as I will play the rest of the season. You will never see someone push the rest of the team as hard as I will push everybody the rest of the season. You will never see a team play harder than we will the rest of the season."

>

Ezekiel Elliott after losing to Michigan State:

"I deserve more than 11 carries. I really do. I can't speak for the playcaller. I don't know what was going on."

"Honestly, that was my last game at the Shoe. There's no chance I'm coming back next year."

that is not even remotely fair to Elliott.

Tebow was still in the beginning of a season, Zeke knows he has 2 games left in his OSU career and just played his last home game ever.

That's a load of b.s. Urban Meyer sits at the top of the offensive brain trust at Ohio State. It's on him.
Then why was there such a huge offensive drop-off when Tom Herman left? We're scoring 34 ppg now when we scored 45 ppg last year. While "Meyer sits at the top of the offensive brain trust at Ohio State", it's Beck that makes the play calls during the game. Is Meyer going to override every other call? Tell me, how many big time college football head coaches call the offensive plays themselves?

and just played his last home game ever.

And it appears losing his last home game "ever" made it easy for him to declare it was his last home game ever. Don't really want to debate, but would have been more impressed if the Buckeyes had congratulated MSU on the win and called it a day.

But I realize in today's social "look at me" media era that's impossible.

MEYER TAKES BLAME FOR PLAY CALLING
When Meyer was asked in his postgame press conference if he was content with the play calling Saturday night, Ohio State’s head coach offered a quick response.

“No, I was not content,” he said.

The Buckeyes refused to try and establish any sort of passing attack. They didn’t even challenge a Michigan State secondary which came into the game ranked 86th nationally in pass defense.

Meyer said he wasn’t pleased with that plan, but also opted to place the blame on himself.

“I call a lot of plays anyways so finger will be pointed right here,” Meyer said. I have to do better. We didn’t — very conservative.”

Urban went to the CEO roll to save his health and try to enjoy life outside of football...he's involved but not to the degree everyone is assuming is my guess.

Didn't realize that Tebow only had 6 pass attempts and 4 carries in that game, being underutilized. Also, that game was early in the season, not game 11. Oh, wait! He had 38 pass attempts and 15 carries. Whoops. It was their defense who cost them the game, giving up 31. It wasn't the offensive playcalling.

Absolutely embarrassing. Tweet from Doug lesmerises:

Ohio State ran 17 plays in 2nd half. Yes, 17. 7 Barrett runs (36 yds), 2 Elliott runs (3 yds), 1 Miller run (5 yds), 4-7 passing (17 yds)

11:30am - 22 Nov 15

To Dantonio's credit, he took the air out of the ball from the beginning snap. He was bleeding the clock--calling running plays and making sure his QB didn't snap the ball until there were 5 seconds or fewer left on the play clock--from the first quarter on. The guy knew he had the less talented team and his starting QB was out, so his best chance to win was to shorten the game and give OSU's offense as few opportunities as possible (and considering we only ran 17 plays the entire second half, I'll say his plan pretty much worked perfectly). His offense was able to step up a couple times, and his team got a timely flip of the field on the next-to-last drive. I'd expect Harbaugh to try to do the exact same thing next week.

Some "pundits" are saying Michigan State has a chance to win it all and I agree. Ohio State proved last year if you catch lightning in a bottle at the right time good things can happen. These same pundits are now saying Ohio State has been totally overrated all year long after losing by 3 to MSU!

The yin and yang of punditry ...

And yes, Ohio State has under performed all year long for many reasons, but they were not overrated. Motivation and cohesion was their problem, not talent. As Gcashwell mentioned, repeating is hard.

I absolutely think they can get to the playoffs, but I think Bama is winning it all this year. Even Clemson would know what to do against their defense. Their front 7, especially front 4, is great. Their secondary blows. As long as Beck isn't on their sidelines I would expect Clemson to handle them as well.

If osu opened up the play book, had 20+ passes and Zeke had 20+ runs, I'd be right there with you. But we had 15 passes, against one of the worst pass defenses in the B1G, and Zeke had 12 runs, 2 in the second half. It's one thing to hide behind a poorly called game when it was only so-so in the poor calling realm, but this was truly an all-timer. If there was a hall of fame for bad play calling, this may be #1 for OSU. Statistically speaking, it is #1 for urban Meyer. Think about that. He was a first time head coach at a program like bowling Green, and he's never had a worse offensive game than he did yesterday.

Leaving for the Honolulu Airport in a few minutes for the long trip to Ocala and visit my mom and step dad for Thanksgiving. Proudly wearing my locker room Undisputed National Champs T-shirt. Anyone making a snide comment is going to have a very bad day...
What if the comment is "that shirt looks a little small"?

One of things I admire most about Urban is that he never throws anyone under the bus. A stand up guy.

Jesus. That stat is depressing as hell. If you would've told me that before the season started I would've laughed you out of the room. What a damn disappointment.

It's amazing to think that in 2012, with an offense that needed to be completely rebuilt and a WR corp that didn't have a player with over 15 receptions the year before and they were still able to average 37 ppg. This year they returned 2 highly touted QBs, a RB with the 2nd most yards in a season in OSU history, 4 starting OL from the best unit at the end of last year and some very good players at WR and it's been a complete 180.
