Game Thread tOSU @ Sparty, Nov 8th @ 8pm ET, ABC

If we fix the tackling issues and shore up Special Teams and this team *could* (strong emphasis on the 'if') win it all.
1. If I remember correctly, last night when the Bucks missed a tackle early in the game Fowler said something about that being out of character because they either led the nation or were close to the top in fewest missed tackles. Not sure exactly because I wasn't paying that much attention to him and Frosted Tips.
2. The ST turnovers were very uncharacteristic. Did we have any for the season coming into last night? And I noticed Meyer changed where he had Clinton kick to as the game went on. No more close to the sideline with a chance to go out of bounds. He traded "try to pin them deep" for "make sure they don't start at the 35."
3. This team *can* win it all. Not saying that they will, but that the possibility is there. Whether they win it all or not, I'm enjoying this season watching these young players mature as the season progresses.

Clinton kicking out of bounds has been an issue. I noticed that only a few of the kickoffs went to the left corner, but I think they took more as a touch back that I am used to seeing.

I believe Clinton kicking out of bounds is part of Meyer's risk/reward strategy. Yes, he has kicked it out of bounds a few times. But by trying to put it close to the sideline in the field of play they have also pinned the opposing team inside the 15 several times. I believe as the game went on last night Meyer took that risk/reward off the table.

It was the missed tackle by Conley on the first TD of the game. Fowler said Ohio State never missed tackles (he emphasized never) and Ohio State led the nation in fewest missed tackles (30?).

And that's remarkable considering what a dumpster fire tackling had been the previous 2-3 years. Chris Ash has made an enormous difference in this defense.

Very true, last years team would not have won against MSU yesterday. That said, against our first "quality" opponent we still missed tackles and took bad angles far too often. I particularly disliked how many yards Langford was able to pick up after contact, seemingly at will.

There's still much work to be done, but the future is bright.

It ain't perfect. But it doesn't have to be...especially if the offense is firing on all cylinders. Langford is a terrific back, and sparty has a very good OL. They're always going to get their yards. What was truly impressive was how they totally flummoxed Cousins. This pass D has made remarkable strides.
