2025 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Yeah we cleaned up early, so not a whole lot of work to do to finish out the class. Really the names you said are what the key remaining targets are. I would only add Brew to someone that we pursue until the end, but I don't think we sway him from Oregon unfortunately. That said, if we could pull away one of Brew or McNutt and keep Offord, that would be incredible.
Is there anyone in the Jeremiah Smith category with this season where Coach Day and the staff are sweating it until they have his signed commitment in hand?

Probably not to JJ Smith level, but I would say there would be real concern with our two Alabama commits (Grady and Offord). Not just due to talent, but need at the position. Plus it is just hard to keep commits from the deep south. Nothing gives me real concern for now other than Offord, but it could pop up. The rest seem locked in.

Hehehe, no one is in the Jeremiah Smith category!

I know what you are saying though and to be honest, I personally haven't seen it. We could lose a couple like @RB07OSU mentioned and it would hurt, but won't make Day faint at the podium like JJ. There is no other JJ and there hasn't been one before. It's hard to believe that he's so young so that recruitment might have been the best ever for our staff which is wild.

Could someone, please, please, get me an OL recruiting report? Maybe some glasses for Frye. Am amazed that 'all of a sudden' there is a solution to tOSU's OL dilemmas. The #2's aren't good enough to go as #1's, and requiring a position switch to compete. Next year we're losing Donovan, Seth, Pryor, and probably Simmons (dunno if he qualifies for medical redshirt), unless he stays to prove he's healthy. Carter probably has alot to learn as a true freshman, but the proven tackles weren't able to make it to the field after Simmons went down. Hear of flips, notably the GA Tech guy, and perhaps the Bama OT, but nothing seems to be happening other than rhetoric. And certainly, not visiting is (to me at least), a huge negative to coming to Buckeyeland. And being a Negative Nelly, Hinzman could skedaddle back to Wiscy, given what's gone on here. I understand that tOSU is in the hunt for a nati today, but remember, Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. That's for next year and beyond.

There’s nothing to report, like literally nothing other Frye looking at more sleepers in OH. The top 50 OTs and top 50 IOL are all committed. I’m sure some flips are being looked at, but OSU is also in the middle of a season where they could beat scUM, win the B1G and even an NC. On top of that Frye has a mash unit at the OL after losing his best OL and the backup and now having to play 4 IOL and 1 swing OL. I promise I want OL updates as much if not more than you.

Back up the NIL money truck to the portal gates…

Yes. But we got to know who’s transferring first.
And I’m in full agreement with the Portal option
It’s getting to be a big enough of an issue that I think that they may have to consider making a market. I also have to guess that there’s plenty of conversations with HS coaches going on regarding a few of those HS coaches former players… I’m not interested in breaking any rules, but I absolutely would encourage and expect the staff to put their toes right on the line.

At this point, what rules. Do what you want to win, who's going to punish you

Thanks pnuts, you've cleared away the fog for me re OL futures. Guess we've gotta play it like Thump - bagmen next year. Don't recollect whether there were any 'proven' OT's (LOT?) out there, during xfer time. Guess we'll see. As to your above post, kinda gotta wonder 'are there any rules'? Doesn't seem to be. Tampering is such an ugly word, but isn't that really flipping after a recruit has signed? Anyway, spent a lot of my working life as a planner, trying to see the future. Regarding tOSU OL, see alot of maybes, but nothing certain sure. Thanks for the update.

Good for the kid for getting this record, but that's a ton of wear and tear on a kid not built like Derrick Henry. It will be interesting to follow his career, because his body has to have taken a beating already just at the HS level
