2025 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Seems like this portion of the recruiting cycle is one of utter joy or utter anguish. I'm waiting for the portal to open up, and see if Seaton decides that Deon sold him the sizzle, whereas he coulda come to tOSU and had the steak. Regardless of how it ends up, believe tOSU has done well with its recruitments of these kids. Not certain we readers will ever know how much NIL is being spread among the recruits. Does anyone know if the NIL are/is running 'specials' on amounts needed for certain recruits? Go Bucks!

Do like where tOSU stands, not so much that the flips center around our positions of need (OL and DL). With several of our verbals still in play (recruiting not shut down), still gonna be a nail biter. Up above was mentioned 'signing day'. Not certain has credence anymore, as a 'commit to receive school funding' seems a bit squishy to me. Really, a verbal can change their mind, and show up at another college willy nilly and there's no recrimination to the recruit at all (from all I hear and read). Recruits seem to have the upper hand here. Anyway, Go Bucks!

So no more Mathis and hearing Alford to the U. Hope we have some more sticks in the fire to replace these recruits.
We've been down this road the last 3 or 4 years so you'd hope that's the case.... but based on the visits and the recruiting threads (or lack their of) I dont think we have much other than a hurried push for in state kids who mighta been dreaming of an OSU offer (which if they are good enough to earn an offer only after a decommit it feels like more of a "get a body in here" play). They did what they always do ... get their guys locked up early and start on the following year.... even when this has been a trend... Sorry just tired of this same song and dance every year with this staff

Totally agree AuTX, but not entirely certain that most of the other elite recruiters feel the same way. Also adding Bama to this mess. Lots of schools looking to cherry pick that 'recruit to fill our holes', regardless who they've already verballed to. Add the NIL aspect to this pot, and stir mightily. Actually, pretty happy this isn't my job, as not even sure that $1 mill is enough to combat the stomach acid this brings on. Take comfort that many/most of the key players are locked in, who want to become Buckeyes, and not one is a make or break (if you look at tOSU's current roster). But if you need someone to stand with you on the ledge, looking down, I'm your guy....Go Bucks!

Tbh, if OSU uses the Portal properly and fills holes from departing players, recruiting misses aren’t even that big of a deal. I remember OSU losing 2 RBs coming into the season, and the RB room could’ve been: Henderson, Peoples and SWD... And then they got Judkins. The S room looked prettt devoid of talent at the starting level outside of Ransom, and then they get Downs. There wapps a year ago that OSU lost both their starting OTs, yet they found a kid who’s arguably the best OL on the roster in Simmons.

And tbh, at the WR, LB and CB positions, OSU has a ton of talent(as long as they minimize transfers), and most are quite young. DL and OL can desperately use an infusion of talent that will definitely be available when the Portal opens.

And there's the flip side of the portal process....Not entirely certain of the 'new' tampering rules (assuming there are still some), but yeah, look and see where the holes are, see what's available, maybe poach a player of interest, and it's all good. Thought Simmons was a reach as a soph at SD state, but he's grown nicely at the position (seem to recollect there were some growing pains), although BPers were lamenting at one time. Negative Nelly that I am, tOSU losing some elite young talent to same portal because of lack of PT, and/or getting passed up by transfers in will be a problem for all the elite recruiting teams. Some teams (Colorado, TA&M) seem to use the portal as a one year interview period. Fortunately for us, tOSU is a recruiting juggernaut, and has deep NIL pockets, so can offer an excellent package to key transfers. Go Bucks!

Some interesting nuggets from 11W Forums

AG says to keep an eye on a major signing day surprise at CB.
Tim Walton is working on a couple names behind the scenes that he is keeping under wraps.

As someone who follows this closely, keep an eye on Brandon Finney and Dorian Brew. Nobody is reporting this, but just a feeling I get.
Finney is basically out of Oregon's class at this point, and Brew’s history with Ohio State is well documented.
In the worst case scenario if Oregon does flip Na’eem Offord, I would expect the always aggressive Tim Walton to flip one of their CBs back.

Birm said that there is someone that we have not talked about much if at all before looking to set up an OV soon. Who is currently committed to a P4 school.

Per AG, Ohio State is going to finish this cycle with three CBs in the class.
CB Jordyn Woods is ours if we push but some uncertainty if there is a spot for him.
Woods is making his second visit to Ohio State this weekend.

teeedawg 2 hours ago
Per AG, the sense is WR Quincy Porter ends up sticking with Ohio State.
Porter's visit to Florida was him testing his NIL market value. Ohio State does not believe this is an NIL driven recruitment, though.
Florida is firing the NIL cannons to get DJ Lagway some weapons with five star WRs Dallas Wilson and Jaime Ffrench also in to visit this past weekend.

teeedawg 2 hours ago
Per AG, Georgia has declined to push for OT Damola Ajidahun.
Ajidahun will come down to Ohio State, South Carolina, or Georgia Tech. The race is very, very tight between all three.
Ohio State is pushing hard for Ajidahun to come back up for the Michigan game.

teeedawg 1 hour ago
Per AG, Jarquez Carter and London Merritt will have to make decisions on whether to trust Ohio State’s plan or just take the largest NIL package available.
Ohio State is not upping the NIL package for either player and view them as replaceable.
Miami is the threat for Carter, Colorado the threat for Merritt.

Maxwell Roy, Trajen Odom, and Zion Grady are locked in with zero concerns.
