2024 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

from 11W Forums

Not Ohio State, but thought the board would find this interesting:

New Syracuse HC Fran Brown is putting together a staff filled with recruiting powerhouses.

Brown himself was THE superstar recruiter at Georgia (Ellis Robinson IV, Justin Williams, AJ Harris, Demello Jones).

New DC Elijah Robinson (and current interim HC of Texas A&M) is regarded the best DL recruiter in the country (Walter Nolen, DJ Hicks, LT Overton, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, Dominick McKinley).

New DL coach Nick Williams is a rising star recruiter. He was primary recruiter on the majority of Colorado’s incoming class (Kam Mikell) and single-handedly won several big time recruitments while at Georgia (Kelee Ringo, Lewis Cine, Bear Alexander, Smoke Bouie).

Don't be surprised if a few unexpected recruits pick 'Cuse over the next couple weeks.

Ohio State football coach carjacked near Ginn Academy while on recruiting visit; suspects caught after police chase

CLEVELAND — An Ohio State football coach was the victim of a carjacking Monday near Ginn Academy that resulted in a police chase and the arrests of four youths.

The assistant coach was not harmed in the incident and has resumed recruiting, a team spokesperson told cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer. The incident was part of a carjacking spree by four youths, ages 15 to 18. They were arrested near East 107th and St. Clair Avenue after a chase that involved a police helicopter.

Authorities said the youths robbed the coach at gunpoint, stealing his Dodge Durango. The youths then attempted to carjack two women, but the pair drove away from the attack, according to authorities. A police chase ensued, and the four youths were arrested.

The youths are expected to be charged today.

Cleveland Councilman Mike Polensek, who is on the board of the Ginn Academy, said the incident involving the coach happened in the school’s parking lot while classes were in session, early in the afternoon.

He said he was notified after a Cleveland municipal court judge called him late last night as he was leaving another meeting about crime in the community.

“I’m disgusted about it. It’s bad enough that this crime took place in our community but in an area that has little crime,” Polensek said.

Ginn Academy, located at 655 E. 162nd St., is an all-boys school founded by Glenville football and track and field coach Ted Ginn Sr. His son, Ted Ginn Jr., was an All-America kick returner for the Buckeyes prior to his NFL career.

Ohio State has been recruiting more Glenville players in recent years. Arvell Reese is in his first season with the program. Cornerback Bryce West and tight end Demarion Witten are both committed to the 2024 signing class and are expected to sign with the Buckeyes next week.

Ohio State coaches have been making recruiting visits since the NCAA contact period re-opened on Dec. 1. Those visits include contacting players in future classes, as well as those committed to the 2024 class, which can sign beginning Dec. 20.

How nice would it be to have someone like Robinson or Williams as the successor to LJsr?

The councilman saying that area has little crime  East Cleveland off of St. Clair......good luck even in broad daylight.
I thought the same thing, I'd take my chances in the Gaza Strip right now. Rough area. But glad he's ok, as a victim of an attempted car jacking it's the scariest sh*t you can go through.

There is literally nothing that can prepare you to stare someone down pointing a gun at you, can confirm. I wasn’t as lucky to escape unscathed but I am still here, and seeing this story kind of triggered me.

Very, very glad to see he wasn’t harmed.

I don't think the updated Rivals 250 for '24 got posted in here, so here it is:

1. WR Jeremiah Smith 5*, up 1 spot
14. DE Eddrick Houston 5*, up 2 spots

22. LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa 5*, up 9 spots
26. QB Air Noland 5*, down 5 spots
30. WR Mylan Graham 4*, down 2 spots
36. WR Jeremiah McClellan 4*, up 62 spots
52. OL Ian Moore 4*, down 14 spots
57. DB Bryce West 4*, down 5 spots
60. CB Aaron Scott 4*,
up 78 spots
65. DE Amaris Williams 4*, up 25 spots
79. RB Jordan Lyle 4*, down 13 spots
103. DE Ernest Willor 4*, down 6 spots
108. RB James Peoples 4*, down 31 spots (didn't play most of this season, so not a surprise)
148. LB Payton Pierce 4*, up 23 spots
169. LB Garrett Stover 4*, up 74 spots

222. S Koi Perich 4*, just listed as "new" as I don't believe he had a number ranking before

- Other 4 stars not in the top 250 committed to OSU were the Armstrong twins, LeBlanc, Witten, Lockhart and VanSickle. There should be a final batch of rankings that usually come out after the AA games in January.

As a survivor of a home invasion shooting, can confirm. You never forget it. Hopefully he’s mentally okay.

This is kinda insane even in the days of NIL for a team with national title aspirations

Flaccid...that is a good way to put it mildly in PG context honestly. If all you had to do is recruit 5* QBs and WRs, then we'd be set.

Unfortunately that it isn't how it works and I think our final rating will be inflated for that reason unless we get 3 surprises on OL/DL for this class, with another couple in the portal. Star power will be there, but huge holes at key positions that have been lacking two cycles in a row. OL not as bad as DL, but now we're going to be hurting on both trenches...back 7 looks great, but the front is not looking promising. I'll wait for NSD to be done but right now we're struggling.
