2024 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Kids getting lots of money to finish 7-5 every year and play in front of 9k fans at an NFL stadium…
Says all you need to know about OSU. It’s not the deep pocket big money football factory some thought it was when NIL hit. Can’t blame the kids taking the fat check to ‘go to school’ elsewhere. Would you have turned down a bag at 18? Injuries happen and only a low percentage of these 18 year olds get NFL rookie contracts and even fewer get 1st round money. Either OSU wants to get in or they don’t. But that’s the harsh reality of it from a semi-pro football standpoint. But all ‘Booms’ need to be saved for actual signing days because verbal commitments don’t mean a GD thing.

Tbh, if I was 18yo I'd do the same. Fans don't pay these kid's family's bills. And a 6 figure check(or higher) speaks louder than any relationship, I wouldn't care if I played in front of 10 fans, as long as that check cleared. And the fact that I could play and attend school in SoFL, it makes sense. We can laugh all we want, because we know Miami isn't going to be much better on the field than OSU next year, and I still like OSU's actual football spot better than where Miami is.
I'll ask people this, if Miami and OSU switched players and coaches, would you be happy with that?

Sadly there is a segment of the "Fan"base that absolutely would be....

So NIL is actually leveling out the playing field a little bit?
It's early goings, but NIL and the portal has been incredible if you want to see competitive football. When people said that NIL would tilt the playing field even more to the Bama/Georgia/OSU's of the world I had to laugh. I figured we would start seeing some programs drop ridiculous offers to a few five stars to keep the powerhouse programs from stacking talent. If you're fan of a school like the three I mentioned, you probably hate it lol. The days of signing classes with 7 5-star players might be over, and I don't see how that isn't a good thing if you want to see competitive football.

I wouldn't say there's not money to be thrown around, obviously it will be less than the oil Barrons of the state of tejas but there should be a decent amount.... but I gave the response as to why I think its not happening in the OSU NIL thread but I will quote myself (sorry)...
It feels like that given Gene's stance on NIL and the collectives... They are being held back and are basically counting on NCAA/Congress to come in and put guardrails up. Something just does not feel right about tOSU collectives and the University, and it feels hands are tied.

Which makes me laugh every time I still see people call it 'O$U' .... where did all that $ supposedly go?!

Plus you can take the big guaranteed NIL now and transfer in a year or two with no consequences.
