2024 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

To summarize:

1. Montgomery went up from #47 to #24. Well deserved, I think he is one of the best OT prospects in the nation.
2. Jermaine Matthews went all the way up to #48 overall, highest he's ranked by a bit.
3. Reese moves up to #120 overall.
4. Tate, Innis and Bryson Rodgers all fell a bit (no idea how on Tate and Innis, who have been murdering it this year).

Rest of the moves were mostly minor.

Five-star Illinois defensive tackle Justin Scott was supposed to be at Ohio State for last weekend’s game against Wisconsin, but he and his family will instead be making the trip to Columbus this weekend for Saturday’s game against Rutgers, he confirmed to 247Sports.

Scott is the No. 31 overall prospect and fourth-ranked defensive lineman in the 2024 class per 247Sports’ composite rankings. A two-way player at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago who could also play on either side of the line at the next level, Scott was offered by OSU on Sept. 5.

The 2024 RB class is still in its infancy stages. I was predicting a Stacy Gage/Jordan Marshall, and right now it looks like we get neither... But in 3mos, we could be favored again... And then in 6mos move away from them. Recruiting is fun

Most likely WRs for 2024:
JJ Smith
Mylan Graham
Tyseer Denmark

Birm predicts those 3, and he believes only 3 in this class.
I agree, but I also think Hartline chases Trader, Hudson and Jeremiah McClellan until ESD. OSU is getting too loaded at WR by ‘24, after taking 4 in ‘22, and 4 in ‘23 and 3 in ‘21.

I like that prediction at the moment, but some way I also see one of Trader or Hudson in this class, whether they are in over another prospect or we take a 4th. 4 would be surprising to me as well with how much we have loaded up at WR, probably need one more guy at another position rather than WR. Reckon that is something I would leave up to the staff though.

  • The chances of Ohio State taking two running backs in the 2024 class seems like a pretty safe assumption. After only taking one in the 2022 and 2023 class, the Buckeyes can afford to restock the shelves a bit, but also have the luxury of being pretty picky too as they appeal to several top players at the position across the country. That said, there’s in-state Ohio players that are on the staff’s radar already. With a common theme of taking a top national product and an in-state guy to compliment, that sort of equation for the 2024 cycle doesn’t seem too far off base.
Per Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts.com, one in-state native that is highly interested in Ohio State and not shy about it, Sam Williams-Dixon (Millersburg, Ohio/West Holmes) has expressed his feelings about the Buckeyes, and is an option the staff is paying attention to as he’s already been on campus this fall for game day visits.

The No. 512 player nationally, Williams-Dixon is the 35th ranked running back in the class and the 20th best player from Ohio per the 247Sports Composite. Without an offer from Ohio State yet, Sam does hold offers from the likes of Tennessee, Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, and Penn State among others. If the two parties continue the interest, it’s not out of the question to see the Buckeyes get a little more serious about Williams-Dixon and the potential to keep him at home for his college career.

Birm has raved about this kid and can see OSU eventually offering. And if/when that happens it wouldn’t take long for his commitment. But I believe that Alford has other targets ahead of him right now

STEINFELDT PLANS TRIP TO COLUMBUS FOR THIS WEEKEND
Wheelock isn’t the only intriguing 2024 prospect expected to be in Columbus on Saturday. Indiana three-star tight end Aidan Steinfeldt announced he’ll be among the recruits in attendance for the Buckeyes’ contest against the Hoosiers. Steinfeldt worked out with Ohio State at a recruiting camp earlier this summer and is considered the 549th-best prospect and 25th-best tight end nationally in 2024 per 247Sports’ composite rankings. He has four Division I offers from Indiana, Miami (OH), Minnesota and Western Michigan.

  • Three-star 2024 tight end Tysen Smith: “I had a great time at OSU visit. It was the first time to a game in The Shoe and it was very impressive. They do a great job hosting recruits and families. I talked to Coach Wilson and we spent a couple minutes on the field before the game talking with him just making small talk. I have been talking with him a lot over the past year on the phone and he is really easy to talk with. They see me as a H back/tight end.
