2024 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Don't see a thread about KJ Bolden, as I'm sure most assume he's headed to UGA. But here's an interesting tidbit:
https://247sports.com/Article/Five-...n-impression-at-Overtime-OT7-event-188573938/

Regarding the Buckeyes: “Ohio State nobody knows this, the safety coach Coach Perry (Eliano) he’s my cousin. The family tie and they show mad love and it’s Ohio State, it’s different up there. (Eliano), definitely from coaching Sauce Gardner and Coby Bryant, two guys that made it to the league he definitely making a name for himself.”

Ohio State safeties coach Perry Eliano and the entire staff are continuing to grow their relationship with one of the best defensive backs in the 2024 class –– four-star St. John Bosco (Bellflower, California) safety Peyton Woodyard.

Woodyard is the No. 2 ranked safety in his class and the No. 3 overall player in California, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings. His recruitment with the Buckeyes has entered into a comfortable familiarity with Eliano, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and coach Ryan Day.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound rising junior visited Ohio State after the Buckeyes’ spring game in April and surprisingly, Woodyard hasn’t been back. But that doesn’t mean Ohio State is in bad standing. In fact, the relationship between him and the reigning Rose Bowl champions is flourishing.

Especially between him and Eliano.

“It’s been great,” Woodyard told Lettermen Row on Friday. “We talk weekly and stay connected. We have a really good relationship and have a strong connection.”

Peyton Woodyard’s visit to Columbus on April 22 paired with the absent summer visit might look like a stain, but it was intentional. Woodyard’s April visit worked out with his spring break and allowed for him and his family to head to Columbus where they got to meet Eliano, Knowles and Day all in person for one of the first times.

Woodyard has seen Knowles since that visit too. The Buckeyes’ new defensive coordinator traveled to California and watched him play in Bosco’s college spring showcase in early May. Ohio State’s staff isn’t alone in its pursuit of Woodyard. The Buckeyes’ 2024 five-star Chandler (Arizona) High quarterback commit Dylan Raiola is on the recruiting trail for Woodyard and earlier this summer, Raiola said he wanted Woodyard to join him at Ohio State.

While he remains in contact with the Buckeyes’ staff, Woodyard will travel to Columbus for Ohio State’s season opener against Notre Dame on September 3. Woodyard has some things on his checklist that he’d like to see in Ohio Stadium, and no better team to see those items than the Irish, who he’s visited three times so far.

“I am looking forward to the game-day atmosphere and I am hoping to see how the coaching staff interacts with the players,” he said.

Just sayin': On3 has him as a strong ND lean.

OH TE, Tavion Galloway commits to LSU. OSU never was in this, and I don’t even think he got an offer. Rumors of being a diva, and having no interest in blocking…

Also bad measurables—6’2.5”, 5 second 40—in addition to reportedly no interest in blocking, and people around him that don’t seem great. The tweet I was referencing has now been deleted, but it was quoted and discussed here:

Tayvion Galloway is committing to LSU today, but that hasn’t stopped the people around him from still thinking about Ohio State lol.

Ohio state fans are always killers when it comes to recruiting. Think they know it all. Think every Ohio kid wants to play at Ohio state. Thinks if Ohio state didnt offer they wasnt good enough. We keep receipts around here!!!!

Bill Kurelic: If I had to predict right now…

The Ohio State staff currently has the country’s No. 4 ranked 2023 recruiting class in the 247Sports Composite team recruiting rankings. And they are working hard at finishing that class off strong.

And the staff is also working on their 2024 recruiting class and has a great start with a commitment from the country’s No. 1 overall 2024 prospect, quarterback Dylan Raiola.

Today I look at six other top 2024 prospects the Buckeyes have been recruiting and give you my prediction on where I currently think the recruit is headed “if I had to pick right now.” I then offer a bit more regarding what I also think could happen as well as what the Crystal Ball currently says.

Let’s start with wide receiver Joshisa Trader…

Hartline with an offer to an unranked small town kid with no offers. He's so under the radar that he makes Olave look like a 5 star in HS!

The highlights are really good, for a kid who's by far the best player. And it speaks LOUDLY that he was at a camp with another IN WR, who is a 5 star, and Hartline offered him and not the 5 star kid! Kind of reminds me of Bryson Rodgers in '23, long, lanky with long strides which mask how fast he really is. I think a few more camps, and this kid will blow up

Two more receivers cracked the top 100 following outstanding offseason performances, including multiple live exposures: New Haven (Ind.) wideout Mylan Graham (99) and Fort Bend (Texas) Hightower standout Zion Kearney (100). Graham is also a basketball standout, while the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Kearney assembled elite performances in combine testing and state 7-on-7 environments in the Lone Star State.

This kid seriously went from unranked to 91 overall on 247 and 150 in composite :yow1:

EDWARDS VISITING FOR NOTRE DAME GAME
A top 2024 defensive line target is making plans to be in Columbus next month.

Four-star defensive end KingJoseph Edwards confirmed to Eleven Warriors he plans on attending Ohio State’s season opener against Notre Dame on Sept. 3. Edwards also said he’s been hearing a lot from the Buckeyes’ coaching staff.

“I speak with multiple staff members from Ohio State weekly,” Edwards told Eleven Warriors. “(Coach Johnson) is my favorite.”

Edwards, a top-50 prospect nationally, last visited Columbus in March for a spring practice, where he received his offer.

BOLDEN ATTENDING SEASON OPENER
Edwards won’t be the only highly touted 2024 defensive prospect in attendance for the Notre Dame game. Five-star safety KJ Bolden also confirmed to Eleven Warriors he plans on attending Ohio State’s season opener, which will mark his first visit to OSU since he visited Columbus April 15.

Bolden, who’s ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle, is a cousin of Ohio State safeties coach Perry Eliano.

Ohio State targets litter MaxPreps' 2024 preseason All-American teams

Ohio State is just getting going on its 2024 recruiting class while still putting together the 2023 group. The Buckeyes have just one commitment so far in the 2024 class in quarterback Dylan Raiola but that already has the Scarlet and Gray ranked as the No. 12 class in the country. It will certainly grow in the coming months.

After releasing the outlets' list for preseason All-Americans, which featured three Ohio State commits, MaxPreps dropped their preseason All-American teams for the 2024 class on Wednesday. This list featured a number of players in which the Buckeyes are interested.

RB DAVION GAUSE

RB JERRICK GIBSON

WR JEREMIAH SMITH

TE LANDEN THOMAS

ATH JOSHISA TRADER

ATH JONATHAN ECHOLS

CB DESMOND RICKS

CB ELLIS ROBINSON IV

CB MARCELLES WILLIAMS

S KJ BOLDEN

QB DYLAN RAIOLA

RB STACY GAGE

2024 running back names top 10 schools
One of the top recruiters on this Ohio State coaching staff is running backs coach, Tony Alford. Sometimes unfairly, Alford doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. Whether it’s because of prior unsuccessful recruitments that were out of his control or being over-looked by fellow staffers such as Brian Hartline, Alford has crushed it lately. Beyond just his position itself, Alford has been in on a number of national targets and many times is a deciding factor for the Buckeyes winning out in the end.

Speaking specifically on running back, the last couple of cycles have treated Ohio State very well, and that’s given them quite the room right now. Though the current roster is loaded with talent at his primary spot, Alford knows he needs to continue doing his best work on the trail not only in the current 2023 class, but especially in 2024 when he’s likely to go after two running backs.

With several backs already being offered, Ohio State learned they are still in the running for one four-star back in the 2024 class when Texas native Bryan Jackson took to his Twitter account to release his list of top 10 schools still in his recruitment. At nearly 30 offers to his name this early on, narrowing it down to 10 is proof that Jackson is making his way through the process, and keeping the Buckeyes in the mix is certainly ideal for Alford.

I

Personally, I say offer all of these kids that they haven’t already (minus the TE committed to LSU, he just doesn’t seem like a culture fit from what I’ve seen). None of them are major reaches and none of them are WR where we can choose to go after 3 of the very best in the country every year.
I think the best part is all of these kids could come in and compete from day 1, as they’re all in positions where multiple players will be leaving and depth could be thin
