2024 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

QB Dylan Raiola on Ohio St. "The Buckeyes are definitely at the top of my list. I left this weekend very impressed and just the way they run everything is first class." Birm's RPM has Raiola at 55% OSU, and he also pegged the two receivers on his RPM as Jeremiah Smith at 70% and JoJo Trader at 60%. And IMO Birm is about as conservative as any 'guru'.

I’m excited to get there,” he said about the return. “I get to be up-close-and-personal. I get a chance to spend time with coaches in the meetings, practice, and really just hear how these coaches run practice.

“It’ll definitely a more in-depth preview of how they run installation meetings. Coach to player and player to coach.”

That second visit with the Buckeyes is over.

Why was it important to get his mother on campus at Ohio State? What impact did the Buckeyes receivers make on Dylan Raiola? What kind of feedback did he get from Heisman candidate C.J. Stroud about Ryan Day and Corey Dennis as coaches? How long does he see his recruitment going?

The top-ranked quarterback talks about those things and more in the latest edition of Birminology from Lettermen Row.

I know the 2024 header is being dominated by Dylan Raiola but he was just named the #1 recruit in the class by 247 Sports and he is definitely interested in Ohio State and may even be a lean. Here's some of his stats from last season in Texas(playing this season in Arizona). Threw for 3341 yds. and 32 tds with only 5 picks (1 in every 70 attempts). Completion % was 65.1. They compare him very favorably to Ewers and Drew Allar as far as arm velocity and as a playmaker. Also good pedigree as his dad played 14 seasons in the NFL on the OL and his uncle is currently coaching OL at Nebraska. His top 5 include Nebraska (of course) and Bama, Georgia, Oregon and the Buckeyes. If Day can get this guy I think it'll be as big as Ewers should've been.

Dylan Raiola Scouting Summary
“Advanced arm talent with the ability to make a wide variety of high-level throws as a high school underclassman. Looks like the top quarterback prospect and overall arm talent in the 2024 cycle early on. Physically developed at around 6-foot-3, 210 pounds. Has a natural, loose throwing motion with unique arm dexterity to deliver off-platform and from multiple arm slots. Already has a deep catalog of throws as a rising junior in high school. Easily drives the ball to all levels of the field. Played both under center and in the shotgun as a sophomore. Ahead of the curve as a ball-handler and in the quick passing game. Shows good footwork and awareness in the pocket. Capable of creative plays in the face of pressure. Primarily a pass-first quarterback as a sophomore, not running for many yards. Turned in one of the more productive sophomore seasons among top 2024 quarterbacks. The son of 14-year NFL center Dominic Raiola. Also a standout baseball player as a pitcher and catcher.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

“Ohio State was good,” Oden told Buckeye Scoop. “I had a great time. I got to meet with some of the coaches, watch practice, and take a tour.”

Spending time with the staff was valuable for Oden.

“I spoke with Coach Walton and Coach Eliano,” he shared. “We watched some film. They talked about the former players they’ve coached too. They didn’t offer yet, but said they’ll stay in contact.”

If the Buckeyes offered, would they be a contender for Oden’s services?

“That would be great,” the standout sophomore said about a potential OSU offer. “Ohio State is a great school.”

6'2, 220 LB from Tennessee. Top 10 LB in 2024 class. Edwin Spillman

"I've been speaking to Dallan Hayden and Ty Lockwood a lot," said Spillman. "Both have been recruiting me pretty hard and just telling me I need to get up to Ohio State again soon. They said it's a great place to be and where I need to be. It's just been a great experience so far and I'm excited for what's next." Will be visiting this weekend.

Booker’s uncle Ryan (or Grease) owes me a Nintendo 64 lol Swapped me his PS1 for my 64 bcuz he got tired of me whooping him in Golden Eye, and I wanted to play a couple old PlayStation games I had. Spring quarter ended and I didn’t get my system back.

Discretion is the better part of valor. Tony you probably made the correct decision in not pursuing "Grease".

Take a moment and appreciate this. How many teams have this kind of juice that they attract the VERY best for their spring game?

We are incredibly lucky to have Ryan Day and Corey Dennis. In the long, proud history of tOSU coach lineage we have never come close to having coaches this dialed into the passing game and since that’s what it takes today, I’d argue we have never had a coaching staff this offensively prolific. People can argue the greatest OSU QB ever but you can’t argue the greatest offensive coaching staff ever. You add Hartline in the mix? Absolutely LETHAL. Now just imagine if Frye can come close to that level with the OLine and running game.

Appreciate it folks. Not sure how it gets any better.

Methinks that Woody is NOT turning over in his grave, but smiling down from heaven at the turn tOSU game strategy has taken. Especially the only 3 wins in the 22nd century that Xichigan can boast. Back in his day, (mind as well), it was big beef and fullback up the middle, hammering the D into submission. Nowadays, it's leaner, quicker players, and immensely more athletic QBs with better arms than most of the pro players of those days (my opinion not a given). Whatever works. Woody's still right, when a pass goes up, three things can happen, and two of them are bad. But when completion %ages are in the 70+ %, then things are now skewed towards the passing game. Pretty certain that he'd be all over the D coaches though. go Bucks!
