2024 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

If you guys had to pick one between Micah Hudson and Trader with whom would you roll? I think I personally like Hudson a little more maybe because he reminds of OBJ a bit - guy is an acrobat
I think each is a matter of preference, as you can't go wrong with either. But my personal preference would be Trader. But I think OSU has a better chance with Hudson, IMO.

OHIO STATE CURRENTLY HOLDS THE NATION'S NO. 1 RECRUITING CLASS, MAX LEBLANC'S HIGH SCHOOL COACH SAYS THE TIGHT END'S HANDS AND CATCH RADIUS ARE COLLEGE-READY

And as of Monday, the Buckeyes now have the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation per 247Sports’ national rankings. OSU trailed only Georgia by 13 points in the standings after Williams-Dixon and LeBlanc committed Saturday, but five-star tight end Landen Thomas flipped from Georgia to Florida State Monday, giving the Buckeyes the No. 1 recruiting class by nearly four points.

Too easy to debate 'who's the better' when the kids haven't hit the field. As so many have opined, it takes 3-4 years to determine which recruiting class/group is the better. On paper, however, we take those nebulous stars, and say, ours is better/best, without taking into account the recruit's heart, desire, ability to learn, practice ethic, etc. And don't forget opportunity. Even the best 5* might have to play behind someone who's a lesser overall talent, but has specific training, experience, and know-how. Have to admit though, this type of mental masturbation is lots of fun.

Fresh off the press with RB07OSU's 2024 updated class prediction and comments (which if was in print may be used as toilet paper, but thank the lord for internets):

QB: Air Noland (done deal, excited to have this kid as our QB in '24...he is rapidly improving and great job by the staff to identify talent and seal the deal...he will end up a 5* imo if he continues the progression)
RB: James Peoples (jumped out of my seat on this commit, thought it was coming but this is a fantastic player and even better human being...future captain and playmaker here)
RB: Samuel Williams-Dixon (he seems like a good player but I think he needs to really prove it at Pickerington to keep his spot...reserving judgment until we see how he fares there)
WR: Jeremiah Smith (right now he seems as solid as solid gets...need to keep recruiting him and the staff knows that...he is the best WR prospect I have seen since Julio Jones and that is not an exaggeration, he is that good and probably the best recruit in this class...he legit might be able to come in and play this season)
WR: Mylan Graham (this kid is going to do everything for us and has a huge upside...he will block, he will be a decoy on routes, and then ultimately get rewarded with big catches...another one I came off my seat for his commitment, going to be an amazing player here)

WR: Micah Hudson (taking a left turn here from Trader....Trader is my preference and we can maybe win that battle, but I think he goes the NIL/Florida route at the end of the day...Hudson is a fantastic recruit and I sense we might be focusing more on Hudson and I think that would not be a bad idea)
TE: Max LeBlanc (seems fine, we don't need a 5* headliner here after getting Thurman last cycle, who I think is going to be a monster here...just needs to fill out because our TEs are mostly blockers and I don't see Max as a blocking TE right now)
TE: Demarion Witten (excellent receiving TE and we'll be seeing his commitment in the near future)
OL: Ian Moore (stud and a stalwart of this class)
OL: Devontae/Deontae Armstrong (lumping them together against my own judgment, as Deontae likely plays tackle and Devontae plays guard...but this is an absolute coup, both of these kids have insane potential and drive...every Buckeye fan should be thrilled on getting these guys)
OL: Marc Nave (OL is hard to predict but I honestly don't really get this one...maybe he will prove me wrong)

OL: Brandon Baker (probably a wish-list type of guy for now, but the interest is legit and we have a real shot here...may not be Baker, but we are in a position to swing for the fences on one or two more national guys on OL)
DE: Elias Rudolph (even with the move, I think this makes sense no matter what happens with LJ Sr)
DE: Booker Pickett (connections are there, big talent...want to see the legacy continue)
DT: Darien Mayo (might be a DE prospect now, but I see him at DT...the DT position has me worried, I don't have any confidence in the top guys that we have offered coming here)
DT: Jayden Jackson (good player, but mostly a spot filler...DT is just a black hole right now)
LB: Payton Pierce (absolutely huge commit, I think he is a Pete Werner clone...will be a three-year starter imo)
LB: Sammy Brown (seems like a Knowles LB and connection with Lil Animal is there...seems like a good fit but plenty of options here)
DB: Aaron Scott (they call him "seatbelt" because he locks everyone down...will be a surefire stud in Columbus, can't wait to change the font the scarlet on him)
DB: Bryce West (really see the above on Scott, different players but same outcome...lockdown corner)
DB: Miles Lockhart (watching him it seems like he can play CB or S...great player though and seems like a likely commit, so just get him in)
DB: KJ Bolden (I list him against better judgment, but there is a chance even if it is slim...would be a Vonn Bell type impact and we have to try our best even though I think he stays south)
DB: Garrett Stover (maybe ends up at LB with his size and play style, but listed him here for now...stud and we want players like Garrett on our defense)
DB: Peyton Woodward (not high on our chances here yet, but the chance of a flip is possible...not likely, but possible...talent is there to warrant the pursuit)

Absolutely LOVE this list! I only have a few edits, that I’d personally.
QB: same
RB: same but I’d add Taylor Tatum/Derjuan Williams/Jordan Lyle
WR: same, but I’d swap Hudson for Jeremiah McClellan
TE: same
OL: same
DL: I’ll just say same, because I literally have no clue who they are in on. This group has names changed almost weekly. But I’d add Lightfoot at DE
LB: I don’t see Brown in this class. And due to the new defensive scheme with only 2 LBs playing at a time, I see Pierce, and Stover is being brought in as a LB. And that is the class, imo
CB: same
S: Powers, and Woodward(I like the possibility of flipping him from UGA)

Powers slipped my mind, he is probably in this class and Bolden is a longer shot. I also really like Tatum, would love to see him in this class if it doesn't drive off Peoples.

Thoughts on Lorenzo Styles or other portal additions?
Unless the staff sees Styles switching to DB succesfully, I don't see the appeal to adding him to an already crowded WR room unless there's a lot of attrition. We're definitely going to try to add an OT from the portal, that's the priority right now but there isn't anyone as of right now that we are looking good to land there.

- Edit: As I posted that, I see that SDSU transfer portal OT Josh Simmons is visiting on Friday. He started every game for them last year, but his PFF grades aren't stellar (better in pass pro though, which we need). Probably would be an improvement though at one of the tackle spots with his experience.
