The question with Stud has never been “can he coach?”. He’s always been above average in that department. Until his lines start playing poorly, there’s no reason to get rid of him either.

Just answering the question “why don’t you think we’ll land those guys?”.

Stud can’t recruit. We all knows this. He develops though. He builds offensive lines. Like Wisconsin offensive lines.

I just looked for kicks and giggles, and was surprised just how well Wisconsin has been recruiting OL the last few classes:

Rucci - 5 star #16
Brown - 5 star #17
Brunner - 4 star #62
Wedig- 4 star #83
Nelson - 4 star #104
Benzchawel - 4 star #131
Mahlman - 4 star #141
Tippman - 4 star #325

And yet, their OL this year seems to suck.

I would love to see a deep dive into the star rankings for offensive lineman. I'd also love to see what proportion of NFL outliers exist at that position when it comes to star rankings.

The physical transformation, the late bloomers, the massive change in technical skill, etc.

the 'dominate HS because you are 100lbs heavier than anyone you line up against and then show up to college and the DL can hit back' thing. Yeah, I'm with you. Other than the occasional, obvious can't miss guys, it seems the least accurate/most difficult to project position on the field.

Dt for similar reasons.

A corner, wr, rb can succeed (at least in spot duty) without a developed physique as well. A scrawny Ted Ginn can destroy you (devonta just won a Heisman).

Camps are also a lot more useful to develop and scout those positions. If NPF is a physical gem but doesn't play well as a United front, bad things happen. And in a camp, the guy next to him is not usually worthy of the same scholarship, and certainly not all 5. And you're definitely not going to have a moving QB that you try to murder. It's a very unrealistic scenario for the OL.

I would like to see that as well. I've heard that OL is the hardest position group to rate.
