2021 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I will be honest, I was shocked to see ESPN almost go out of their way to help OSU recruit tonight. I mean, the results speak for themselves, but they were going on and on about Ohio State and how recruits are basically insane to not come here. Is Coronavirus in the water or something? But seriously, we have already seen results of getting guys to next level come in as we destroyed it recruiting during COVID-19 nonsense despite all odds. After tonight, I can only see it getting better. What a display.

There is a thread over on Stadium and Main wondering if we are breaking the rules with our recruiting. If can never be we are better than them. We must somehow be cheating....
It's just so delicious.

With the recent commits and CB's rolling in lately on top targets, the class is coming into picture. I am sure there will be a surprise or two, and some potential decommitments, but the class seems pretty straight forward at the moment. Here is my predicted class:

QB: Kyle McCord
RB: Evan Pryor
RB: TreVeyon Henderson

WR: Emeka Egbuka (looks like we are running away here)
WR: Jayden Ballard
WR: Marvin Harrison Jr

WR: Christian Leary (seems to be trending our way, explosive slot guy like Mookie last year, seems to be a desired role moving forward)
TE: Sam Hart
TE: Hudson Wolfe (looks like we will pull this one off somehow, but one I am more skeptical on then other predictions given our lack of use of the TE position)
OL: Donovan Jackson
OL: Ben Christman

OL: JC Latham (you can pretty much bank this one and I love it, top OT prospect in the nation...see him manning LT and Christman at RT, with Jackson inside)
OL: Jager Burton (might be trending away to UK, but hopefully he delays his commitment and we can another crack at a visit...if we miss on Burton, I would look at Davidkov, Spindler or Dellinger to fill the spot)
DE: Jack Sawyer
DE: Tunmise Adeyele
DT: Mike Hall

DT: J.T. Tuimoloau (think we are in the lead by a lot, I see him in this potentially historic DL class)
DT: Tywone Malone (recruitment has been a little quiet, but everyone seems to think he ends up with the good guys...would round out an unreal DL class)
LB: Reid Carrico
LB/Bullet: Jaylen Johnson (I am putting him here because I don't think the staff sees him as a pure safety given our other commits and targets)

LB: Raesjon Davis (will be tough to flip, but we will pursue hard...getting our foot in Mater Dei big time and grabbing Davies could help...for now, I am just filling a gap, because we definitely need another LB)
DB: Jakailin Johnson
DB: Andre Turrentine
DB: Devonta Smith
DB: Jantzen Dunn

DB: Jaylin Davies (seems like we are close to locking this one up...huge talent and fits perfectly in our scheme, would be a huge get)
DB: Derrick Davis Jr. (seems to be trending our way, but don't count out PSU...a guy that is "in" if he commits no matter what imo, one of the best safeties in the county)

- That is 27 total and possibly 6-7 DBs, which seems bonkers. But it really does seem to be the trajectory we are on. We are not saying no to Davis or Davies at DB, which could easily give us 6 DBs if Jaylen Johnson ends up at Bullet/LB. The only ones above I am hesitant to call are Burton, Wolfe and Raesjon Davis, although I wouldn't consider any of them a longshot per se. The rest I have essentially penciled in. What a class that would be. But I do wonder if we have some decommits.

Some comments:

It seems like Emeka Egbuka, JT Tuimoloau, and JC Latham are virtual locks at this point. 5-star heaven!

Not sure about Tywone Malone. Hard to get any intel on this kid. Hard to know if he is really a top-50 recruit.

Christian Leary will probably end up at Oklahoma or Alabama. He'd be a luxury for us. We don't need luxuries. Take Harrison, Ballard, Egbuka and call it a wrap.

I've never really bought into Hudson Wolfe or the two TE theory (didn't buy it last year, and they didn't take two). Maybe if he's the 4th OL (see below) and eventually converted into an OT.

I think that Jager Burton goes to Kentucky. FWIW, Steve Wiltfong loves David Davidkov, says that tOSU is recruiting him hard, and thinks he would be a good fit in Columbus. Davidkov is currently 100% CB'ed (4/4) to Michigan. Rocco Spindler is trending ND (2 recent CBs including Kurelic), Garrett Dellinger is 100% CB'ed (9/9) to LSU. I'd say that Davidkov should be the new target for the 4th OL spot. If not, then maybe Hudson Wolfe (see above) or some later bloomer (may be difficult to find this year without camps and combines, and maybe without a high school football season).

Not buying Raesjon Davis to tOSU. Pipe dream like Elias Ricks from last year's class. Don't buy the smoke on this one - there's no fire.

Rivals has Derrick Davis Jr. listed as an OLB. He seems a bit small for LB, but it would make sense to bring him in as an LB in order to balance out the recruiting class, which otherwise would be top-heavy with DBs.
