2021 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

With the recent commits and CB's rolling in lately on top targets, the class is coming into picture. I am sure there will be a surprise or two, and some potential decommitments, but the class seems pretty straight forward at the moment. Here is my predicted class:

QB: Kyle McCord
RB: Evan Pryor
RB: TreVeyon Henderson

WR: Emeka Egbuka (looks like we are running away here)
WR: Jayden Ballard
WR: Marvin Harrison Jr

WR: Christian Leary (seems to be trending our way, explosive slot guy like Mookie last year, seems to be a desired role moving forward)
TE: Sam Hart
TE: Hudson Wolfe (looks like we will pull this one off somehow, but one I am more skeptical on then other predictions given our lack of use of the TE position)
OL: Donovan Jackson
OL: Ben Christman

OL: JC Latham (you can pretty much bank this one and I love it, top OT prospect in the nation...see him manning LT and Christman at RT, with Jackson inside)
OL: Jager Burton (might be trending away to UK, but hopefully he delays his commitment and we can another crack at a visit...if we miss on Burton, I would look at Davidkov, Spindler or Dellinger to fill the spot)
DE: Jack Sawyer
DE: Tunmise Adeyele
DT: Mike Hall

DT: J.T. Tuimoloau (think we are in the lead by a lot, I see him in this potentially historic DL class)
DT: Tywone Malone (recruitment has been a little quiet, but everyone seems to think he ends up with the good guys...would round out an unreal DL class)
LB: Reid Carrico
LB/Bullet: Jaylen Johnson (I am putting him here because I don't think the staff sees him as a pure safety given our other commits and targets)

LB: Raesjon Davis (will be tough to flip, but we will pursue hard...getting our foot in Mater Dei big time and grabbing Davies could help...for now, I am just filling a gap, because we definitely need another LB)
DB: Jakailin Johnson
DB: Andre Turrentine
DB: Devonta Smith
DB: Jantzen Dunn

DB: Jaylin Davies (seems like we are close to locking this one up...huge talent and fits perfectly in our scheme, would be a huge get)
DB: Derrick Davis Jr. (seems to be trending our way, but don't count out PSU...a guy that is "in" if he commits no matter what imo, one of the best safeties in the county)

- That is 27 total and possibly 6-7 DBs, which seems bonkers. But it really does seem to be the trajectory we are on. We are not saying no to Davis or Davies at DB, which could easily give us 6 DBs if Jaylen Johnson ends up at Bullet/LB. The only ones above I am hesitant to call are Burton, Wolfe and Raesjon Davis, although I wouldn't consider any of them a longshot per se. The rest I have essentially penciled in. What a class that would be. But I do wonder if we have some decommits.

Solid list.

You think we end up with a full class? I could see us with room for 23-24.

We have 18 seniors, and 3 underclassmen that will definitely go pro (Wyatt Davis, Shaun Wade, Fields). That gets us to 21.

Certainly think we will see several transfers or potentially another underclassmen or 2 declare.

How confident are you we go full 25? Because if we go full 25 limit, I think it’s a lock we set record for best recruiting class ever.

Harder to accomplish that feat without a full class....not that recruiting titles lead to championships. It’d be cool to have it though....

Well the current draft is not helping our case with lineman and WR's.

Huh? Bad draft for our WR's but Jackson and Hamilton went in the 3rd round (not to mention Young at #2 overall). Bowen, Cornell, and Landers were all UFA probabilities which shouldn't be a surprise. Landers and Cornell were career rotational players and Bowen suffered a nasty injury that stunted his development.

Plus, it's just one draft. We've had loads of draft picks on OL and DL lately and plenty at WR too.

Not having a pro-day really hurt our later round picks.

OSU proday is routinely the highest attended non-combine event leading up to draft, so that was crushing for BB, Bowen, Cornell, Victor, Mack, etc...

Heck, I think Austin Mack is a big time sleeper that prob goes late rounds if scouts see him in that setting.

Alex Mack (and Ben Victor) both signed with the NY Giants.

How accurate are those "crystal balls"?

Another Buckeyes target in 2021, Illinois offensive lineman David Davidkov, committed to Iowa. Prior to Monday’s decision, the 6-foot-6, 295-pound 4-star had been 100-percent predicted to Michigan, but picked the Hawkeyes instead.
