tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Everything has to about competition on this team.
Hunter Johnson has 3 years of eligibility left. There currently is a "hole" left by Burrow's departure. Johnson would fill that "hole".
Great student athlete also.
Looking at what's available in high school QBs this year , Johnson(five star) is a "take" if he's interested.

Haven't watched his film, but as far as depth goes we are razor thin behind Haskins. Going back to 2014 and getting down to the 3rd string, 3 talented QBs is a must. Martell still has to improve his passing, we don't know what we have with Baldwin especially coming off that injury he's already behind. It takes time to groom most QBs and we don't appear to be getting a good one this year unless things turn around with Gunnell. Johnson's career wouldn't really overlap with Haskins very much and would a be a battle with Martell as to who would take over behind Haskins.

The fear is that Haskins will be a "one and done" and head to the NFL. Then we'll be looking at Martell and Baldwin and a walk on at QB in 2019.

Do not see Haskins being a one and done. Deshaun Watson played alot more in his first two years than Haskins and then QB'd his Clemson team to the NC game both his junior and senior season. Haskins needs two years of starting before he is ready to go to the NFL. This is because he did not start his first two years and hardly played except in the 2nd half against ttun.

No one can say anything for sure about his situation until the season has played out! He has NFL arm talent that scouts drool about he can really go whenever he chooses, it really just boils down to if he pushes his draft stock high enough through one season of play. He's got arm talent equivalent to top NFL arms when he actually cuts it loose. He does have to have a phenomenal single season to push it to a top 10 pick but his arm and size will probably guarantee him going in the top 2 rounds regardless of when he chooses to go. Another thing to note is that he will probably be losing his top 6 receivers (Campbell, McLaurin, Dixon, Hill, Mack and Victor) after the season as well and the combination of the receiver talent accompanied with the 2 headed monster at running back makes for the perfect storm on offense. It's honestly sets up for a perfect chance to be a one and done when you think of all the threats he's losing around him that his numbers would probably drop the following season.

... and what a great season it would be in DH and Z6 were able to play at a level where they all make fat bank in the next draft.

I mean honestly all the ingredients are there, 2 good coordinators, 2 1,000 yard backs, 6 receivers of varying skill sets who have been underutilized, a deeper OL than in years past and what this offense has missed in many years in a QB capable of stretching the defense vertically and as well being just as good on the short and intermediate routes. The point being if good things happen on offense and he does go we are left with 2 scholarship QBs on the roster not including who we get this year. Neither of which are seasoned or have experience, so what better way to add depth than to add a highly ranked QB that is getting out of a situation because of the great talent already on the roster. Just saying the burrow situation has put us in a bind where the depth is thin and we all know how things transpired in 2014, so our depth is far from where it needs to be at the position. Gunnell or Johnson would be an important and needed add to this roster.

If Haskins plays well enough to be one and done I can live with that and let the chips fall.

And should he make that call we will have our pick of any grad transfer in the nation. (Maybe Shea Patterson will have graduated by then.)

There was a young man from Cleveland, OH named Cardale Jones who QBed tOSU in a whopping 3 starts. After the conclusion of the NC he was predicted to go in the top 5-10 picks of the NFL draft. If Cardale can do that in 3 starts, I'm sure that Haskins can be a 1st-2nd round draft pick off of 1 year.

I think Gunnell is starting to trend away(off to Sumlin in the land of desert and mediocrity at UA), and I wouldn't see Meyer going after Johnson in favor of a kid in the '19 class, IMO.

OHIO STATE SURPASSES MICHIGAN, RECLAIMS TOP SPOT IN 2019 BIG TEN RECRUITING RANKINGS

Yesterday was Ohio State's first one-day camp of the summer, and June is slated to be one of the bigger months on the recruiting trail as the new early official visit period winds down. Even though the majority of the fireworks are expected to come later in the month, Ohio State has already reclaimed the top spot in the Big Ten's recruiting rankings.

The Buckeyes and Wolverines have been going back and forth a bit for the conference's top spot, but on Saturday Jim Harbaugh lost a commitment from four-star Florida athlete Te'Cory Couch. Michigan still has more commitments for the 2019 class, but the Buckeyes are now back on top.
