tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I just had a thought...I wonder if Ohio State could potentially move to a 3-4 or at least use that package a lot? Looking at the DL and LBs over the '20, '21, and '22 classes plus the fact that Coombs was part of a staff with the Titans that ran it really makes me wonder. just look at what that front 7 could be in a few years.

DE - JTT/Darrion Henry
NT - Mike Hall/Tylek Williams
DE - Jack Sawyer/Jacolbe Cowan
OLB - Mitchell Melton/CJ Hicks
ILB - Cody Simon/Gabe Powers
ILB - Reid Carrico
OLB - Dasan McCullough

I just see a lot of "tweener" type guys like JTT, Henry, Cowan, McChullough...What do you guys think?

What I think is you need two more players to complete an unbelievable two-deep...how about Shawn Murphy and Enai White?

I think we could keep the 4-3 and have an insane rotation at all positions

As high school football teams throughout the state of Ohio begin their 2020 seasons, eight Buckeye commits will be among those taking the field on Friday night.

Four members of Ohio State’s recruiting class of 2021 – Massillon Washington wide receiver Jayden Ballard, Ironton linebacker Reid Carrico, Streetsboro defensive tackle Mike Hall and La Salle safety Jaylen Johnson – will be on the field Friday night for their first games of the year. So, too, will all four of Ohio State’s in-state commits in the recruiting class of 2022: Marysville linebacker Gabe Powers, Archbishop Alter linebacker C.J. Hicks and the Lakota West duo of cornerback Jyaire Brown and offensive tackle Tegra Tshabola.

DEAD PERIOD LIKELY TO BE EXTENDED
Whether or not the news comes out on Wednesday or later in the week, today is a bit of a good news/bad news day in terms of recruiting.

On the same day that the Big Ten announced its October return, the NCAA Division I Council held its latest meeting, and one of the items on the agenda was whether or not to extend the recruiting dead period through October. It’s a damn near certainty that the dead period will be extended, so even though Ohio State looks like it will be holding games in The Shoe, the program’s targets will not be able to attend in person.

One idea that has been thrown around (I first heard this idea on the 247Sports Football Recruiting Podcast, and I believe it was Blair Angulo whom I first heard say this) is to slap a GoPro camera on the helmet of a walk-on or seldom-used player in order to give recruits a visual of what an entire game day is like – everything from what pregame is like in the locker room, the leadup to a game, running through the tunnel, the action on the sidelines and postgame celebrations (assuming a victory) – even if it’s severely watered down without the presence of fans.

Update: The NCAA DI Recruiting Dead Period has been officially extended until January 1, 2021.

I don't see how this makes a whole lot of sense with no fans. Stadiums like the Shoe get you hyped based off of the entire game time atmosphere, a lot of that is the fans interaction. Without them, it's just filming a game with a different camera setting.
I think the dead period will show what kids REALLY want to attend your school

You're not wrong, but it makes for an interesting situation when it comes to big boy recruiting

I guess that college football this year will be alot like TV shows, having a 'laugh track' playing in the background, signifying to the audience when something funny has occurred. Agreed, the Shoe arockin' is something to be a part of. Can see Penn St playing their track at full volume when tOSU is trying to call offensive signals. Same Up North, or South, or wherever. Can't say its cheating, but darn close. Go Bucks!

They can add that track to the broadcast without playing it in the stadium. So I am curious what the rules will be for playing noise. I see no argument to allow it, particularly as you say when it is specifically being done to distract a team. Just asking for an arms race.

Luke Montgomery, a rising-sophomore from Findlay, has a few. The 2023 prospect checks in at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds and, he has been working hard to continue developing his frame into a high-level Division I football prospect. Like many young athletes, Montgomery actually prefers to play basketball right now — he’s played for Lebron James AAU team and now competes for Indiana Elite — but knows that football is the sport that provides him the best path toward college athletics.

SKULL SESSION: MYLES GARRETT COULD HAVE GONE TO OHIO STATE, MIKE VRABEL IS A FOOTBALL GENIUS, AND MICHIGAN IS HILARIOUSLY BAD ON THE ROAD AGAINST RANKED TEAMS

"UNFAIR" DEFINED. As if it wasn't absurd enough that Ohio State swiftly went from Joey Bosa to Nick Bosa to Chase Young leading the pass rush, there was a chance that the Buckeyes could have had *another* elite defensive end in that same timeline.

Myles Garrett playing opposite of Joey Bosa AND Nick Bosa? Larry Johnson would have been guilty of manslaughter.

It also would have made this graphic even more hilarious:

The scary thing is, this ain't far off from what Ohio State's defensive line might look like in a couple of years. Zach Harrison + Jack Sawyer + potentially J.T. Tuimoloau + a couple of upcoming in-state five-stars...

Personally, I'm fine with Ohio State hoarding all the elite defensive tackle talent until the end of time.
