tOSU Recruiting Discussion

3-2-1: Where Do We Go From Here?

Understandably so, I get why people do not want to focus on recruiting right now. But, however, there are some points I do want to touch on before moving on to the next section.

To start off, I received word a couple of days ago that a borderline five-star pass rusher Ohio State was in pursuit of did not receive an official offer from the program. To find out who that was, click HERE.

Also, we learned on Tuesday that five-star commit Tunmise Adeleye was reopening his recruitment and had ended his nearly four-month pledge to the Buckeyes. These two developments are pretty interesting.

Based off of this, one could come to the conclusion that Ohio State is now in an even better position to land top-50 overall targets

J.T. Tuimoloau and Tywone Malone. With Adeleye out of the fold and a premium defensive lineman not having the option to commit to them, it’s safe to say the Buckeyes are laser-focused on the two targets above.

Now, they could very well end up expanding their d-line board and look to flip a couple of players, namely Alabama pledge Damon Payne, so it remains to be seen how their recruiting at this position group will ultimately play out. Either way, I give Larry Johnson and company the edge in both Malone and Tuimoloau’s recruitments.

Next, going back to the postponement of the season, we learned that Ohio State’s commits are continuing to stay on board with the program.

There were Buckeye pledges understandably upset with what occurred on Tuesday, and they voiced their displeasure about the decision. To go along with that, however, were several responses reaffirming their commitments to Ohio State.

You can check out Dave Lackford and I’s full commitment reaction piece HERE, but these are some of the replies that stood out the most to us.

Donovan Jackson: “It won’t affect my recruitment at all.”

Ben Christman: “I’m locked in and will sign with Ohio State in December.”

Jordan Hancock: “I am going to miss watching them play, but other than that, it doesn’t bother me.”

Sam Hart: “I really hope they can find a safe way to play this fall and whatever the outcome is, it will not affect my recruitment at all. I’m still a Buckeye.”

Keeping this No. 1 class together is a priority for Ryan Day and his staff.

I wouldn't blame anybody for not wanting to play college football on the spring and then turn around with such a short break and go into an NFL season.

you’re talking about seniors that have exhausted eligibility and juniors that have enough film to get drafted without playing. Those players should not play in my opinion. Others that are not top 3 rounds should try to play as much as they can and wherever they can, likely being another season at OSU in my opinion as all schools will eventually cancel

Nice to see some recruiting momentum following the cancellation. I think the recruiting impacts may have been overestimated.

Won't know until we see if the SEC/ACC/B12 get in a season or not.

If they do, it's bad. Maybe not as bad for OSU but the B1G teams will all be battling "de-prioritizing football" on the recruiting trail for years.

All questions. No answers.

“Parents, the players and coaches, don’t know why specifically the presidents made their decisions,” one Buckeyes parent told Lettermen Row. “We don’t know who voted no and on what basis, what data they used or why they chose six days after releasing schedule to cancel.

“It’s been crickets from everyone.”

And that extends to recruiting. It’s the lifeblood of college football, and it’s why Ohio State has been able to keep the Big Ten in the national title picture for the last two decades while the rest of the league floundered. The lack of transparency, the lack of a plan and the lack of concern for the men, women and athletes who represent the league has turned a justifiable response to a public health crisis into justifiable anger from the people most affected by it.

Does anyone in charge of the Big Ten care?

Good question......

I've never been more happy that Ryan Day is our coach. Not sure you could handle all this better than he has. Shoot, not just handled, he's landing out of state blue chip recruits with visits not being allowed and after the B1G cluster. It's seriously unreal.
