tOSU Recruiting Discussion

So if I understand these new rules correctly, the schools can pay current roster employees (players) a share of revenue. There is a salary cap and the death panel to watch our for bullshit NIL deals. Right?

If I want to start poking at the does of gaming this system, what is to stop my collective from offering a signing bonus tied to a 5 year contract to play at my school, then stashing that kid at another school for the first year or two to let them develop?

Shouldn't count against my salary cap until I call them up, no?
There's a lot of holes if you think about it. Like the HS kids don't count towards the NIL salary cap, so these deals being offered to the 2026 class I believe are through collectives and not the actual school. Hence why USC can offer a TE $10mil(of X amount of years). At least that's what I think I understand from reading

I believe the buy out rule only kicks in if the player transfers after they are already enrolled at the school. They can flip to as many schools as they want during the recruiting process.
This is from Birm:
These are things we can't really know yet, but can assume it will be based on the individual's specific arrangment.
And from a BH poster:
Would all depend on if they signed any contract/language of said contract or accepted any money already.

If they aren't 18 yet, can they even enter into a contract (or is that parent/guardian thing)?
Yes, parents/guardians are a thing. But what parent/guardian would not want to sign off of on a 6 or 7 figure contract?

yeah, I was thinking sort of in the terms of buyouts and breaches
Gotcha. Well, speaking generally I wouldn’t think a number of these kids parents are reading the fine print, or have attorneys to read over such things. Heck, some have random “family members “ advising them(remember former 5star Keon Keeley and his uncle), and many are single parents(mainly moms) just happy their kid is going to school for free and getting paid. They don’t know how much money is involved. I remember saying in the Jakobe Klapper thread that my wife is friends with his mom, and she had no clue how NIL. She was about to set up a gofundme to pay for trips to colleges out of the Midwest region because she didn’t think she could afford The travel costs. I had to tell my wife to tell her that she won’t be worrying about money for a long time when he signs with ND. These single moms are working multiple jobs just to get these kids through HS, and many have multiple kids to worry about as well. Some Of these moms are bartenders, secretary’s, teachers, etc, they have no idea what a buyout or breach is
