tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Good for him. Let's try the shotgun approach. No offense to Tyler, but we'll see how well he develops linemen, as Frye clearly did. (plus, methinks Chip had a hand or two in the mix). Somewhere there's gotta be middle ground, with a high recruiting acumen, plus a developed coaching/teaching element once they get here.

Would counter that by saying look at the 5* Qbs that lined up under center for Notre Dame. Played themselves right out of the draft (maybe Penn St as well?). But agree about the Bama OL guys, they pretty much get better and fly higher.

I kindof agree with that OL point. But also look at one time commit JC Latham. He walked in the door, started for 3 years at Bama and then was a top 10 pick
There are certainly outliers, but more often, all OL need 2-3yrs to adjust to the CFB game. And the mental aspect of no longer being the biggest and strongest definitely can be a gut punch to a former 5star, and then also throw in the mental aspect if they get injured and rehabbing. Many need that RS year at least

First big test for tOSU recruitniks. Hopefully, the good guys will come away from this week end with a few players to fit the chinks in the realm of 'what's needed'. I've gotta keep telling myself, that getting a verbal is merely something that says, the recruits are interested, because as Yogi said, 'it ain't over till it's over', and there's many twists and turns to the path until they're on campus.

considering the economic NIL climate for OTs I’m at a point where Essentially won’t expect commitments for first year players that are highly recruited. Looks like tje program would rather allocate those first year dollars to positions that have higher probability for high impact within years 1-2 instead of having to wait until Y3.

That’s assuming that’s the actual strategy within the program. I won’t throw shade at Bowen if he doesn’t land Ojo I guess is my point — unless it’s for a reason outside of dollars and it’s germane to our recruiting technique or his approach.

Nice group though, looking forward to hearing about how it goes.
