tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Valid post on 11w:
That's all true and we're not going to land every single top Ohio recruit. The only reason we need reminded of that is because recently we have kept the best talent home under Day for the most part. Marshall is about the only big name I can think of that we missed on, and we landed Peoples instead who is at least an equivalent talent and an Ohio native anyways.

I will say that we have some big time Ohio recruits that I see as very important and hope we do not miss on. McNutt is one of the big ones, but we have many coming up that we are going to have to battle for.

But the question going forward with NIL and The Portal is: would you be fine with missing out on top OH recruits if that means OSU lands top recruits from other states? Will fans be fine with OSU missing out on Davis AND Jackson(though I still think OSU lands him), but getting Davidson, along with Mills-Knight and West? No one seems to be mad that OSU hasn't had an OH QB since Cardale, and I can't think of the last WR starter from OH, Devin Smith.

I think most fans prefer the Ohio guy if the talent is roughly equivalent. At WR, all of the talent is down south right now and heck yeah we will not complain about getting the best talent. At QB, same deal but now we have an unreal talent in TSC from rural Ohio, so that is cool to see.

Not to repeat myself, but the Davis situation I do not like and even though he did not go to ttun, he was a guy that I think is going to be a star at the next level. But the brutal reality is that RB talent is somewhat fungible now at the college and pro level, so it is a position I am not overly concerned about. OL I am very concerned about getting the right guys, because then your RB can succeed even if they are not the top at their position.

Lived in Dublin until he was 11. Graduated from Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas.

I don't care - the greatest Wolverine killer in program history came from Texas and was born at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.

It's about mindset and it's something that has been sorely lacking these past couple years.

Something to know when it comes to camps in the NIL era now. Players are getting paid to participate in many of these 7v7 events. Which makes it an even bigger deal that OH kids got to participate. Kids are being offered about $5k per tourney, so some kids are walking into their school years making $30-40k for 3mos. NIL has shown the market that fans are willing to spend to see HSers play football, even if it's just in t shirts and shorts. Even more of a reason to pay these kids with some type of legal means and some governing body needs to step up

Nice rundown on several recruits:

25 PROSPECTS WHO STOOD OUT AT OHIO STATE’S 2024 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CAMPS

147607_h.jpg

Ohio State’s 2024 slate of high school football camps might have been its best ever.

Ohio State held five positional camps and two 7-on-7 tournaments and attracted elite talent to campus to compete in front of Ohio State’s coaches at all of them. More than 50 prospects from the 2025 through 2028 classes received offers from Ohio State after participating in at least one of those camps, while dozens of other star prospects who already had offers from the Buckeyes also made their way to Columbus to participate in camps.

With hundreds of participants in each of those camps, it would be impossible for us to highlight every player who stood out at this year’s camps in just one article. That said, we’ve picked 25 of the prospects who caught our eye the most to highlight as we recap a June camp slate that was overflowing with talent from start to finish.

To start, we’ll look at the five prospects who stood out above all the rest over the course of the month. Next, we’ll dive into the month’s biggest revelations – those being young or unheralded players who earned their way into Ohio State offers with excellent camp performances.

In the third section, we look at five players – in addition to the first five – who arrived at camp with a lot of hype and lived up to it. Finally, we look at seven four-star prospects who didn’t draw as many headlines for camping as some of their counterparts but likewise stood out among the competition with their performances at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

Read the '25 players that stood out...' article, and it appears that many of the recruits were in the 2026 class. Which goes to the saying 'recruiting never stops' theme. Quite a few 5*s, along with positions of need (OL, OL, and OL). Article was very well worth the time to read and might provide insight into the directions of the staff as soon as this 2025 bunch of recruits are signed up. December is the litmus test, and February is the final test. Would that this article told about the recruits' feelings about tOSU in turn. Just a note. Used to be that tOSU recruits were downgraded when they verbaled to tOSU. Now, it seems like our camps are crowded with more highly ranked players, and some that aren't quite 'there yet' on this circuit. But now, with an offer in hand, other schools will be burning up the phone lines (or the internet) trying to get their attention, because if tOSU offers them, then they gotta be good enough. Amazing how things have turned around/played out. tOSU has earned a reputation for evaluating, assessing, and offering kids that can perform at high levels. Thank you Mark Pantoni (et al). Go Bucks!
